Hi! Anyone ever traveled single on a Carnival cruise? We are taking a friend that is single. He is trying to decide rather he wants to take someone or go alone. I told him I thought he would have fun traveling alone. What does everyone else think? I know that most singles travel on Carnival, and lots choose the 7-day sailings.
I have traveled single on Carnival in the past and loved it. But, it can be very expensive. You are paying for a cabin for two even though there is just one person. Like most hotels, cruise lines price cabins based on the assumption that there will be at least 2 people in each room/cabin.

He should go solo for the experience. It will be more expensive to cruise solo, but it all depends on what type of cabin he chooses. I book a balcony, so I pay full 200%, but a inside or OV might be 150%....
Cruising solo is the best!!

Going single is not an issue and I've rarely been lonely. I always have too much fun for my general good health to withstand....I come home tired.
This single supplement is a problem at times. Carnival has been very good to me unlike some companies which can kiss my....uh... ...patronage goodbye.
150% can be tolerated at times, but 200% is unacceptable.

I've traveled single that past three cruises. Loved it. I do travel with friends. Last time I had a cabin mate which was fine since it cut down my costs but I do enjoy being in a cabin by myself.

I've traveled in my own cabin on the last few cruises, but this one coming up is the first one I won't be sailing with friends. So I count this as my first actual "solo cruise". I'm kinda nervous, but I think I will have fun. I lucked out by booking at the same time as a group from this board, so I can get to know some people before we sail.
Yes, it does cost a little more, but as everyone here has said, Carnival has the best prices for singles.

If your friend is an outgoing type of person he will have no problem sailing alone on Carnival. One thing for sure is that there will be plenty of non-escorted ladies on the ship for him to meet.
Thank you all so much for your replies. I will continue to check back. I think he is actually getting very excited about traveling alone and taking a chance on meeting one or several special ladies. Yes, he is very outgoing and has a great time in any crowd. He loves to dance, so this should help. Thanks again, everyone.
I cruz solo all the time. I have cruised with a spouse, girlfriends, my grown child and with a singles group (the worst) and enjoyed my solo cruises the best.
This last cruise I met up with a mother (65) and son (48 and single) who were part of a loose group cruising together. The son and I platonically hooked up on the ship and enjoyed our cruise together. Turns out that we live within 20 minutes of each other so we have stayed in touch.
I have never been want of company on a cruise ship. People are too happy to be cruising and are therefore very friendly and open to others. Plus, Carnival goal is to have their passengers interact so it is easy to mingle and meet.

my first cruise in 07 was with my (then 14 year old) son. In March 2010 I cruise solo and am I ever looking forward to it! I got a inner/inner E189 on Inspiration for 150%. I plan to either watch or participate in as many things as I can, get a lot of relaxation in between, and enjoy beautiful spots on deck just looking out at the ocean.
I'm even taking scuba lessons here at home so I can go on a scuba excursion in cozumel. I have snorkeled but never scuba'd.
Going on a solo cruise is something I 've dreamed about for 20 years and it's finally going to come true!
Non-refundable airfare insures that I'm goiing this time!~
Thanks so much, everyone. I think he will have fun. He has definitely decided to go alone, and is posting for the first time on another board. I plan to introduce him to Cruisemates as well. Thanks again for all the advise, stories, etc.
The first night, there is a singles get together. So, even if someone is just looking to meet friends, and especially if looking for someone special, it is a must-do. At least then you know who else is single. Plus, it is fun. I still go to watch sometimes.
