my husband and I are flying into fort lauderdale airport at 12:55p.m. (non-stop flight) from Detroit and need to get to Miami's port and register for the ship by 3:30-4:00p.m. The ship disembarks at 5:00p.m. We already have a private sedan picking us up and we are only bringing carry on luggage. We can't go down a day early and to change our flight to make it just 1 hour earlier will cost us an additional $500.00 per Northwest airlines. What's the latest anyone has flown into Fort Lauderdale to get to Miami port and still did not miss the boat?
You better hope for good weather and no mechanical issues. Otherwise I hope you bought insurance to fly to the first port.

It just sounds like you are cutting it a little too short. Do get the travel insurance for sure, just to be safe and yea, what about a later nite flight?? I'd check into that.
Hopefully your flight will have no issues or delays...The drive from Lauderdale to Miami is about 45 -60 minutes with good traffic. Getting your luggage, quickly, and out the door, for the drive down 95...,
With all the travel gods working in your favor, you will make it, but bring some pepto bismal along, it's a very close call......have a great cruise..

What ship are you on and what is the date of your cruise?
If your flying in the winter, you probably won't make it. Get the insurance but it would be worth it to change the flight and not miss your cruise all together. If you miss the ship and try to catch it at the next port, your going to be paying hotel and flight just to catch up.

Barring no problems with your flight, you should be OK. We always go down a day or two early just to be safe but if your plane and limo service is on time it really doesn't take that long to get to the Port of Miami. Good Luck and have fun.

yes, you should be ok if no problems with the flight portion of your trip.
definitely try and fly in the day before in the future. both weather, mechanical issues with the plan and other unforeseen things can cause a problem with your flight.
In addition to making sure you don't miss the boat due to air issues, you will have a night to refresh, have a nice leisurely breakfast, and start your cruise refreshed, not all stressed from half a day or more of air travel.
You are reaally cutting it close as there is no time built in for the unexpected. Weather, mechanical, traffic control, runway traffic build-up,are all factors (as well as many others) that can impact a flight departure and arrival time. Being an airline family we have had our share of delays and bad expierences so we allow a little extra for the unexpected. NOW if everything goes as planned you sould just make it. I trust it will be the latter.
I was going to do the same thing for my upcomign cruise out of Miami but then I weighed my options...
1. be totally stressed out and rushed on travel day and hope for the best despite what all my family and friends would be telling me about how close I'm cutting it
2. pay a little extra and enjoy the peace of mind
I really was going to chance it, just like you, but I really thought about it and decided to fly down early. It just wasn't worth the stress to me personally even though I thought I would make it.
It's really about what you are willing to accept.

Wow, I used to cut things close like this, but not anymore. Like others have said bad traffic on 95, an airline delay, your private sedan is late, any one of these thigns happens and you may miss the boat. However, if two of these things happen you are really out of luck. Others have asked, but I will ask again. What day of the week is your cruise starting? Right now, 7/8/09, the airlines are having a great fare sale that ends tonight. Look up flights the day before and the day your cruise leaves again the prices may be lower!! Good luck and happy cruising.
