Default Probably a silly question..

Wife and I sailing soon. We havent booked any excursions as of yet. More than likely just wing it. We'll get off at port and grab a cab to a beach. I'm curious what and where you would put cash, travel docs., etc if you were going in the water and no lockers are available?

We bought a little doohckey you can hang around your neck that holds a couple cards and some cash (the only valuables we take to the beach, or off the ship for that matter, except the camera).

All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; John Masefield

They sell those little doohickeys on the ship. But, not the highest quality. I bought a divers' "purse" that I have used for years. It is like a flat fanny pack with inner waterproof liners. Those have to be replaced every couple of years. But, in reality, leave everything but the minimum back on the ship. Your boarding pass and ID, some cash and a credit card need to go with you. I never take my good camera if we are going in the water. I've found the cheap disposable underwater cameras adequate (barely). I would also suggest making copy of passports, use whatever word processor you have to shrink them, then laminate with the stuff where you can do it yourself. That's only in case you get stuck in a port. It's not as good as the real one but might help expedite matters if you get stuck. Of course, the real advice is not to miss the ship!

there is a safe in your room. Put all important papers there and your money and use a old gift card to lock it.
I only carry what I plan on spending with me when at the beach or
Do not use your room key to lock the safe.
when getting on and off the ship you will need your ship id (sign and sail card) and a second Id. I always make a copy of my passport and carry it.
Just remember to be back on the ship when they tell you. They will not
wait for you unless you are on a booked carnival tour of a island.
Have a great time.
buy a water proof wallet to carry what you need..

We also us the dive “purse”. Make sure to get one of good quality or it will leak. Don’t leave anything in it too long after swimming because the plastic can sweat if it’s warm outside and you go in and out of air conditioned shops.

Ours is a clear plastic pouch about 3 inches by 12 inches that folds down to 3 x 3 and has a ziplock at each fold. Just about the right size for Sail & Sign, Credit Card, the card we us for the safe and some cash. It has a string that can be adjusted to go around your neck or wrist. I put it in a snap down pocket of my swim suit and tie it to one of the cords on the suit.

For the safe I use two copies of a casino comp card, that way my wife and I both have a card that will open the safe.

I have a zipper pocket on my swimsuit. Sign & Sail cards are waterproof as is my State ID or D/L and wet money will always spend.

I'm glad mrrobb asked this question. I was wondering the same thing. So I did a check is this similar to the waterproof case you wear around your neck.

Or more like this?
One part age; three parts liquor!

Freedom of the Seas 2012
Carnival Splendor 2010
Carnival Freedom 2008
Carnival Elation 2007
Celebrity Infinity 2006
Carnival Ecstasy 2005

"SILLY" question?
nope ! sounds most appropriate to me !
That's the main reason I do my swimming on the ship. I don't like to deal with securing my valuables, so I keep my stuff close to my heart.
PAST TRIPS= Enchanted Capri
Carnival: Inspiration, Legend, Valor, Destiny, Holiday, Triumph, Splendor, Fantasy
HAL: Maasdam twice, Statendam, Oosterdam
