Default recommend a backpack without wheels or handle?

I use a small carry-on bag with wheels and a handle but want to change to a backpack WITHOUT wheels or a handle.

I'd like to find one that is under $100 and that would fit under the airplane seat, if the overhead space is all taken up by the time I board, to avoid it being checked.

So probably a backpack that is larger, like for hikers, but it should have a padded little pocket to protect my netbook.

Thanks!

Michelle,

High Sierra makes a back pack that should fit the bill for you. The one we purchased was well under $100, had nicely padded shoulder straps and was well padded inside. There were numerous zipper pouches/containers as well as exterior pouches. There was also a special compartment for a laptop/notebook, with securing straps inside.

You can check them out at High Sierra Sport, JCPenny's, or Kohl's if you have one near you. You can also Google search them under High Sierra Backpacks.

Best of luck and have a great time on your cruise.

I almost bought an eddie bauer backpack the other day but decided to jut stay wth my carry=on with wheels, and I will use a small backpack to hold my purse and netbook, prescriptions and other small essentials.

I have from from this company, but mine must be discontinued. Got it at Sam's Club for about $40.

I'm amazed how much I can pt in it and still stuff it under the seat.

Also have this one which works well and expands to where I'm not sure it fill overhead, much less under the seat.

Both work well.

This works as a carry on, but may not fit under the seat unless you squish it:http://travelstore.ricksteves.com/ca...entId=8&id=139

Usually my carry on is one of the laptop bags and the bigger Rick Steves carry on.

Laptop sleeves can be had for around $10 and provide as much protection as any special laptop bag that I've seen, but the laptop may not be as easy to get to - like when you go through security at an airport.

ps - on Rick Steves stuff, I usually wait until I can find it on sale and with free or reduced shipping. Lots of places sell it.
