Can you buy insurance with out any penalties? I want to book a cruise onboard the Conquest, but I don't want to purchase insurance through Carnival, but Travelguard instead.

I think the limit on my policy was 14 days, but that included "cancel for any reason". The time limits vary by company and coverage. Check it out soon, so if you need to delay your purchase you know your deadline.

Please correct me if I am wrong....I am a newbie in this regard....Don't the "timelines" also apply for "pre-existing" conditions for coverage to be considered valid/covered or whatever the legalese term is?
I don't sell insurance so I may not be using the correct terms. I know some policies have a cut off date when they will not sell you cancellation insurance so many days prior to your trip. Since we bought "cancel for any reason" coverage you can see why it would be somewhat time-constrained. It keeps people from deciding to cancel their trip and then buying insurance to pay for that decision. You can probably get travelers insurance to cover medical costs that arrive during travel almost right up to your trip.
A site the has often been recommend is www.insuremytrip.com (hopefully I typed that right). We used it and it does offer lots of helpful advise, and lets you do some pretty good comparisons of policies.
I say shop now and buy when it seems best once you are informed.

it depends on the policy..............i agree, check out insuremytrip.com
we bought a travelex travel lite (IIRC) for our Pride cruise-mainly since it was Primary coverage...we booked that only 2 weeks before we sailed....i was happy with the coverage offered, which thankfully we did not need.

I was just on the phone with Carnival this afternoon making a payment on our cruise for Nov. 2009. Our final payment is due on 8/25. I ask the girl in groups if I could still purchase the insurance at the time I make my last payment. She said that they have changed their policy and you could purchase the insurance anytime up to 2 weeks before your sail date. Another positive change that Carnival has made to help us in this horrific economy.

Good to know, thanks.
