Default What would you like to see go away?

A previous poster asked what things they would like to see come back. Conversely, I wondered what people would like to see just disappear. For me, the boarding photo could go. I wait in line long enough. I dont need to wait longer for a pic I wont even look at. Usually I am hot and sweaty and just want to board. A lot of folks like these but not me.

Dancing waiters? Been there done that.

What else could you live without?

+1 on the boarding pic. Most people are tired from traveling as well as standing in line to get to that point. Most aren't looking their best. My wife and I actually talked about the Conquest in 4 days whether we should just bypass that pic or not. We'll most likely buy the formal night photo but will skip most if not all others.

I would like to see Supper Club (as well as other comparable type restaurants on other cruise lines) go away. I fear more and more shifting of effort put into making Supper Club excellent that will come at lowering of standards in normal dining room. After all, when push comes to shove and budget/personnel is tight, obviously Supper Club will be prioritized over standard dining. Additionally, this may be extreme thinking but I can see a day when dinner in the formal dining room be an extra cost so that passengers pay one price for Lido deck dinner and different cost for the nice dining room.

Again with the picture thing, I hate the photographers that take your pic at your table in the dining room. Leave me alone! I dont care for the pirate guy with the sword upon exiting the dining room either. Ever try to find your picture when looking thru 1000 pics of the same pirate? Tough to find yourself. I like the formal pics but none of the others.

Good call on the art auction too. I drink the champagne and then boogie.

I like the embarkation photo, but don't want to force that on others. How about a bypass line.
Double ditto for the in port photos - I always try to sneak past them
I stay away from the pool on Hairy Chest day
Dancing waiters would not be missed - no more than once a cruise please!

1.Dancing Waiters!!!!!!!!!
I want them to be bringing my meal and refilling drinks, not leaving in the middle of the meal for a song every night.

2. I agree about the embarkation pictures...
Have a line off to the side for those who do enjoy them....

Singing and dancing waiters:

Dining room photos: I don't want a pirate sticking his head in a picture or having conversation interrupted to just say no to a photo.

Embarkation photo:

Paper advertising in the Capers: They could save a forest a week if they stopped all the unneeded onboard junk mail.

Take care,
Mike

I like the dancing.

Dump the art auction.

Unfortunately, the art auction and ads and what not generate revenue for the cruise line, so are unlikely to go away without a reduction in service somewhere else.

Dancing waiters
embarcation photo (we usually just keep on walkingweh it is our turn, don''t give them a chance)
dining room photo
photos at end of gangway at the ports ( usually can get by this)
extra pay resturants (will never use them, I've already paid for my food)
art auctions
most of the anouncements, if you are at the pool area you really can't hear them anyway (MSC hardly does any announcements it is nice not hearing them)

I agree with most of what's been posted so far.

Do away with:

1. Red, White & Blue teams
2. Supper Club- Use the space for something better
3. Beauty Salon gimmicks & sales pitches
4. Definitely the Art Auctions
5. Hairy chest contest
6. Anything goes clothing for main dining. Want to see people dressed nicely, like before.
7. Bingo - I can take it or leave it.

All good so far except the Supper Club; I'm surprised folks don't want it. I'm a big fan of it

Anyway, back to the original question: I don't like the muster drill. I know it's important and I'm not suggesting Carnival do without putting our safety first, I just wish it wasn't so congested and long. Maybe it's cause I'm a little clausterphobic, maybe it's because they don't let you bring your drink with you, I don't know...

I like the dancing wait-staff, being one of those who joins in. They can do away with the following with my consent.
1) fuel surcharges
2) automatic tipping
3) muster drill ( I do understand THAT can't happen)
4) queuing up ( not going to happen)
5) extra charges for some restaurants
6) t-shirts, shorts, jeans, ball caps in dining rooms
7) foul mouthed comics
8) the trend toward "anytime" open seating dining
9) near naked dancers
10) forced debarkation ( )

I agree with most posts here. They can get rid of....

Pay for coffee counter
Embarkation and debarkation of the ship photos as well as dining room photos.
Supper Clubs
filthy mouthed comedians
kareoke
Formal Wear in dining rooms (do you dress up for supper at home?)
All the ads in the Capers.

Keep the
Dancing waiters ( this is one thing that sets Carnival apart from other cruise lines)
Hairy chest contest ( may I suggest that they add a wet tee-shirt contest for ladies?)
Red- white- and blue teams

I agree with most, except of course getting rid of Karaoke! (them's fightin' words neighbor!)

Get rid of:

Red-White-Blue
Art Auctions
LOUD LOUD music around the main pool. Music is O.K., but why does it have to be so damn LOUD?
BINGO! Absolutely hate it!

I don't think they should get rid of anything they might change the way they do certain things, but everything adds up to the total cruise experience and it helps with crowd control..while all the fans of the hairy leg, karoke contest are at those events, i can go to the spa..while the group is watching the dancing waiters at dinner, i can be on an empty deck watching the stars..while people are playing bingo to try to win a free cruise, I can be in the casino playing roulette..

Great answers. I do find it strange though that a lot of folks say get rid of the art auctions. I know they are really overpriced and there are some questions about the origin of some of the art but hey, if you don't like DON'T GO. I am on the fence about the dancing wait staff. For seasoned cruisers it may get a bit overboard. But think of the 1st time cruiser. What a wonderful experience to bring home and tell everybody about. As far as hairy chest, belly flops, etc. contests again if you don't want to go well don't I agree with the poster who said when the pool gets too noisy she goes to a quiet spot to read. And if you don't like foul mouth comedians (I don't personally) well I don't go to the R rated shows. I guess my point is I go to what I enjoy and skip what I don't. It makes my cruising days happy.

Dump the wine bar too. I never see anybody there. Ditto for the paying coffee bar. Revenue cant be all that good to keep it. People like the inch of gold sale but do they have to block the aisles all day with it?

Formal wear rental area? All I hear is crickets when I walk past. Get rid of the small fridges and get me one that is slighly bigger so at least I can put a bottle of water in there without having to tilt it like the Leaning tower of Pisa.

Granted these are all little things but what the hey..

I say keep karaoke ! It gives those of us who can't sing a chance to show the world why we aren't employed in show business.
Sometimes I just have to sing that cheeky song, and great to know that nobody knows who I am and I'll never see that bunch again.

Just 2 things for me.

1. Limit dancing and singing waiters to 1 night
2. We like sitting at the aft pool except when they start the loud music. I can not even hear my I-Pod and it makes it hard to read. If you want music got to the center of the ship.

Slightly off the original question but GET RID OF PRE TEENS RUNNING WILD!!!

I've had drinks knocked out of my hand by kids playing chase. I've seen fist fights. Pre-teen girl complaining about getting stalked around the ship by boys. Security MUST notify the parents and repeated offenders kicked off boat (walk the plank ). I'm sure there are enough cameras around the ship as evidence.

I agree with you, 100% and I would like to add... that I too am one of those who gets up and dances. In fact, my sis and I instigated the whole table (all women) to get up and dance, they had a great time, and we got some great pics.

We only live once and there is only one final physical destination. We might as well enjoy the trip.

I could care less about art auctions. They are always out of sight, down by the copy machine. The thing that gets me is the photographers.
If I want a picture taken, I'll step over & have my picture taken. Those "forced" photos at embarcation, dinner, and port gangways will just have to be on display all week. I'm not buying. I also have a problem with photographers who block all the public walkways on formal nights. I was headed for the casino one night, turned around and went somewhere else because I couldn't get past the photogs. Although, They probably saved me a couple hundred bucks.

I HATE the "extras" that cost... and I mean FOOD/Coffee/etc... not booze. You used to have "free" (OK you paid for it with the ticket) FOOD and that was it. It's a trend that is happening everywhere. I abhor the saying "all included in your ticket price" and then 3 pages of exceptions. Yuck.
Oh and the usual - hog chairs/whiners/running kids/hot tub kids/etc.
