I almost always do the buffet for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Especially on port days, I prefer to be able to grab a quick bite at my convenience.
The only time I do the buffet for dinner is if I come back from a port totally exhausted. Otherwise, I will get cleaned up nice for the dining room, because it is worth it.

You will see many people never going to the dining rom at all. Some just don't want to bother with the hassel of taking their shorts and tank tops off to eat a nice mean in the dining room.

I make an effort to go, but yes, if I had a long, draining day in port and eat a very late lunch (after 3pm) I sometimes pass on the dining room and eat in the buffet because I am not that hungry. The buffet is limited and sometimes just doesn't have what you want. Pizza and deli are always open, and on some ships with mongolian grill they are usually open as well.

I have gone with my mother on a cruise twice, and both times she just hates going to the dining room and be served instead of serve yourself! I usually had little choice but to follow along and eat what I thought looked good at the buffet. She went on a Alaskan cruise in July and not once did they go to the dining room, not even for breakfast!

Lunch buffet on the ship is amazing--choices aboud!!! regular buffet, taste of the nation buffet, India, Asian, Mongolian, bugers/dogs, deli, pizza, fish n chips/rotisserie/or burritos, and then there are the desserts. The dessert choices are the best at lunch! Not every ship has the same choices, so refer to the deckplan to see what is available!

Enjoy and Bon Apetite!

Yes, I have been on several cruises and never set foot in the main dining room. However, I will go when I travel with others that like it. The food is great in there, but I always am able to find something I like in the buffet. Personally, I don't cruise for food and the whole dining experience, although some do. I don't care to be on a schedule for meals and rush back to the ship to get dressed up and ready for dinner, then have a dining experience that lasts too long for me. I also don't enjoy having dinner at a huge table with strangers. I haven't tried the anytime dining yet, but would be interested in seeing what it will be like.

We use the buffet for breakfast and lunch almost every day of a cruise. But some friends use it for all meals. Of course each time they have cruisesd they were with a special group and the dining time was late and she has a very hard time at night if she eats late.

We have a few times used the buffet for dinner but not a lot. The most was on Caribbean Princess. The buffet on there was fantastic!

We have had a couple of cruises where we either completely ignored the dining room or only ate there once for dinner.

Once Carnival finally gets freestyle dining implemented fleetwide, we might get to more dinners in the dining room.

We like to eat, when we want to eat, according to how our day was...
(too mnay times, you have no choice but to miss an early dinner on a port day)

Glad to see Carnival is finally getting that.

I have never eaten dinner at the buffet, we really enjoy the atmosphere of the dinning room. I have eaten other meals at the buffet and sometimes when we have late seating I have picked up one or two items from the dinner buffet.

The lovely Mrs. Jones and I always eat in the dining room if it's open. It isn't open for lunch, or breakfast on port days normally, so we have to eat at the buffet. It's not that we have anything against the buffet, it's just that we enjoy sitting down, and enjoying the company of other folks, and also we find that we eat way LESS when we avoid the buffet!

We do all our dinner in the dining room, all others are between the buffet, pizza, and deli.

What is served at the Rotisseri on the Splendor (prob a dumb question)
Last year we went into the dining room for lunch and I finally found my fish and chips... it was so good, so this time, I think we may hit the dinning room a couple more times.

I love the buffet for Breakfast (made to order omletes) and lunch (Pizza, Calzone, Mongilian BBQ).

It is rare for me to eat dinner at the buffet. I love the service, food, and company of eating in the dining room. The desserts in the dining room at dinner alone are worth the trip. I'm my last cruise I tried both breakfast and lunch in the dining room. It just wasn't the same as dinner for me so back to the buffet I went.

cruising sure does spoil a person...we are having a debate, buffet or dining room...i guess the comparision at home is ..what am i going to cook, or do i eat out..if i eat out is it a sit down place with a menu that is handed to you or a fast food place where the menu is on the wall

breakfast/lunch buffet (except on port days)
MDR or speciality places all other nights unles it's been a long port day, then we just might skip dinner and get a slice of pizza

My family always eat breakfast and lunch on Lido. It is quicker and I like variety. As for over endulging, you've only got yourself to blame. Who's in charge, your brain or your eyes???

I'm with the majority - Breakfast and Lunch at the buffet and dinner in the dining room.

Happy Sailing

We have never eaten dinner anywhere but the MDR. That being sad, we have only had breakfast once and luch probably 3 times in our 5 cruise history. I do want to ggo to the MDR for Breakfast and lunch when we sail again in December just as a "treat" as a lot of folks are bragging about the MDR for those meals.

ferrangi,
As far as I know, the rotisserie on all Carnival ships serves something different every day. I hate it when I miss leg of lamb day!

Had breakfast in the dining room on my last cruise and the food was not too good. Had eggs benedict and they were the worst I have ever had literally. The muffin wasnt cooked, the eggs were cold and the whole thing was too chewy. Met some nice people but that was about it. Next time its back to the Lido cuz its neato!

Last cruise it took me until the 6th day before I realized you could request your eggs to order. Then it took the cook 3 tries to get my eggs right and then finally I said just give them to me....
But hey, I know now, and I start earlier..... lol

I usually have egg issues. I like my eggs cooked all the way not ruddy. Most people consider this overcooked, but I love it. That is why I normally end up with the hard boiled eggs.
