Wow I don't not expect that. This is the second ship I have cruised on to catch fire. I also sailed the Star Princess before part of the ship caught fire. Here is a link to the news story. I glad to here no one was injuried.
Here is the good thing for the passengers on board.

I feel sorry for that crew. In the past few weeks there have been a couple of medical evacs, one of them being a crew member. Then there was the crew member who jumped to his death, and now this. I bet the crew is ready to go to another ship. I hope the Splendor gets fixed and is back in action soon.

At least the toilets are now reportably working.
Just what would one do if all the toilets quit ?
Drink bottled water ? check !
eat cold food ? check !
get around by flashlight ? check
hold it for 24 hours ? NO WAY !

I actually did that at night on the USS William Weigel, when I was sailing to Vietnam.

I'm booked on the Carnival Splendor October 23rd 2011 for a Richard Simmons Cruise to Lose... Can't wait. Not at all afraid of the ship. Although it is havig some bad luck. Last december my friends family was n her and the captain backed it into the dock at one of the Mexico ports. They had to wait for the hole in the ship to be fixed before they could continue the cruise. ... I think the ship needs to be blessed by a priest. :-)

I am pleased in the classy way most of the passengers responded. Most proclaim they were treated well...considering the circumstances. There was those in the media looking for someone to say..." I hate cruise ships...I hate Carnival...and I'll never go on another ship"
So far the media's naysayers have been disappointed by these Splendor guest who defend the ship and her crew.

I'm not a Carnival cruiser but am shocked to find out that the Splendor will be out of service for 2 months. Must have been more damage than what they have released. I do feel sorry for those already booked because there aren't to many options when sailing out of California. Sounds like they are going to leave her in San Diego to do the repairs. What an unfortunate incident and what a blow to Carnivals image and profits.

Well I was due on Dec 12, sucks to be me!

I've rebooked for the Paradise, Dec 13-17. It's shorter, older, and a lot more expensive.

But at least I'm still going on my first cruise!

Well! Just got off the phone with Carnival. SUPER nice and very helpful getting me re-booked. I spent probably 30-35 minutes on the phone with a great CSR, Alexandria, and she told me some stories of the affected people. Such an experience!

At any rate - whoever is in charge of the list, go ahead and add me back on for the July 03, 2011 sailing! Anybody else going??

Andy

I went on the 4 night paradise cruise in March and loved the ship. I am going on the Splendor in late March. The Paradise was nice because unlike the Triumph there were not a lot of smoking venues.

That's too bad. I hope the Splendor is up and in running order as soon as possbile. I've been sitting here with my frozen toes wishing I could go back and do Rhythms of the Night again.
