Ferrangi--The first two days they were handing out the cut off ones, and then they asked me on the third day if I was a spa guest and I said I had the spa suite! They must have found their supply cuz on the third day I got the white band!!!!

Yes, they do.... $1.50 plus tip. It smelled good, but what we had wasn't anything to write hom about...

Angel, I figured they misplaced them or something like that.

Well Ok....Just back from Splendor and can not say enough how much fun we had. I was really impressed how clean the ship, rooms, overall appearance of the ship was. We really enjoyed eating in the dining room for dinner and our waiter Alex, (forgot asst waiter, wine names) were all very nice. We brought 2 bottles of wine to dinner (white for salad and red with dinner) and what we did not drink they saved for the next night. I guess we were lucky because we got a table for 4 on upper Gold Pearl overlooking the balcony. Very nice. As with misguided angel we were busy too. (busy relaxing). My cousin and his buddy had a inside spa cabin. My cousin was very happy with the spa amenities. He had 2 or 3 different types of massages. (if you have questions I can ask him). We went on the spa tour as soon as we boarded and at 4:00 they had a raffel for what I thought was $500.00 worth of spa treatments but the winners were given discounts on treatments. I left before the end of the raffel because I wanted to get my cabin in aft of boat and get life jackets for muster drill. They did call my name for a raffel. ($40.00 off a $159.00) treatment. But I doubt I would have used it. My cousins friend Gary must have lived in the karoke lounge because we only saw him to eat and on port days. He didnt make it for the legends concert the last night. The weather in PV was warm and humid not too overbearing. The last port in Cabo we had a fast moving storm and they stopped the tenders around 10:30 and cancelled the rest of the days excursions. Got everyone back on board safely. (this was a hot tub and pool day for me).
Saw a couple of the shows and the Fiesta Latina show as unbelievably good. We alternated between breakfast dining room, and buffet. If you get to either of these early enough (before 8:30 or 9:00) you do not have much of a line for omlets or a good seat in dining room. We utilized room service for mid afternoon sandwiches due to late dinner seating. Didnt see much action in casino and did not play bingo. Lastly, we enjoyed the sandwich deli deck 9 aft, sushi, and my daughter loved the burrito bar. We missed out on any free drinks before first elegant night (discounted drinks were offered), but did get free drinks at the fun farewell party on Saturday night. Oh, two mornings on balcony saw killer whales, dolphins, sea turtles.

Sounds like a great trip. I would love to see the sea turtles from the ship. Thanks for coming back with a review. I hope the Fiesta Latina show is still running when I get on board.

I too enjoyed the just ended trip. That Cabo storm was something else. Pouring rain, thunder, everything. It was beautiful when we got there but then wham it hit us hard. I was too sunburned by then to care anyway.

Food was good but never hot in the dining room. Not sure why but I didnt complain. Guess my mom taught me right. Burrito bar was outstanding. I recommend it to everyone. The deli was good as usual. Great selection all round.

Didnt see many shows. Vroom is still there I cant believe it. Its been like what 6 years now? Time to change it up. Service was oustanding and the ship is quite clean although even after a year its starting to have rough spots but thats expected. Our shower didnt drain right but again I dealt with it.

As a Platinum member they say you have priority debarking. The truth is only if you are self assisting. If you check your bags you sit in a lounge and wait for all the self assisters to leave first. We were told that was 70% of all the passengers. You then get to leave before the rest but by then most are off so there is no time savings. So what did I do? I checked my bags the night before, listened for the self assisters announcement to leave the ship and I walked off with them carring a back pack. I went into the terminal, saw my luggage and grabbed it with customs ok. So bottom line it worked but priority debarking should be with or without luggage.

You all who are sailing Splendor in the next few months will have a great time.

Wow, I'm so happy that everyone is having a great time.... sorry about the delay on pics... My sis is still printing. She likes to crop and add borders etc.... it would have be perfect for the gallery, but after scanning they come in real small, you have to click on each one to make it bigger, but hey, there is one uploaded if you want to see.
Spendor in Mexico 2009 (I think that's the name.) Anyway, I should be uploading the rest this weekend.
Welcome back everyone, glad you are safe and out of the storm. 8)

Random Observation about the Splendor: It's not as PINK as everyone says it is...

Wakeboard--you are right, gettin off the Splendor throughly sucks. I didn't want to get off.

I do hope IBCRUIZIN was able to print the PM I sent her so she could give it to Miguel in the Black Pearl. I really don't want to think he was blowing me off by saying he would email me the pics e promised (I sensed he would) and then not. I do think that the information could have easily gone astray if someone else opened the envelopes meant for the Maitre'd and tossed out my letter I left....Damn, I really should have given it to him on my birthday instead of leaving it in with his rather generous tip/bribe........

Well, all I can do is wait until she is back! I hope she has a great cruise!!!

I (35) am sailing with my DW (33), and my DS (3) on 11/29/09. Would love to hook up with another couple for the trip and a couple with a young child would be a major plus (camp carnival always goes easier of the little one know a friend to play with).

I live in LA, and this will be my 6th cruise from Long Beach with Carnival. We will be driving down to the port the day of the trip (just easier with a 3 year old), but I know Long Beach well and have done the stay and sail option in the past. If anyone has an questions about the process, long beach, or anything I can help with let me know. I'll try to pop onto the thread every day or so, but you can also send me a massage.

Some ideas on what I am going that might be helpful:

1. If you can get there early to see the ship come in it is worth it. Nothing more exciting then seeing your ship come in at sunrise, knowing your going to sail that day. You can actually get on the Queen Marry (even if you don't stay there), walk up on the deck and watch the ship come in. A special moment.

2. I'm then going to have breakfast on the Queen Mary. They have a very nice buffet with a great view of the harbour anf it's another great way to start the cruise.

3. After breakfast, it's early check in. It is so much easier to get this out of the way, it takes like 10 minutes if you go early, vs. 30-40 if you wait and do it at the mian terminal.

4. After check in, I'm going to hold the fort in line, and send my DS and DW to see the sights for a few hours. Long beach has a great local bus line, that can take you to see the sights (the aquarium, shopping, etc.) on the other side of the harbor in 5 minutes. Then I can camp out and once things start moving tell my DW to come back. It's easier than having a crazed toddler getting bored in line. Plus, I can relax, listen to the early football games on the radio, and meet some new friends in line.

Some other quick tips:

A. When you get on board, while everyone is going to the buffet take the time to visit the places you want a reservation. The SPA, the Specialty Restaurant (for those formal nights!), and stop by the dinning room if you need to change your table/time. These reservations/changes are easy to get early, but can be impossible if you wait to long to make them.

B. If your going to board early, make sure you wear or carry on swimsuits. Not only is it a great way to kill time before sailing to take a dip, since most people forget these in their luggage, the pools/spas can be very empty the first few hours on board.

C. Immediatly after the Muster drill, the ship will sail. Instead of going back to your cabin to drop off the life vest, take it with you to the back of the ship, for a drink of the day, and a great view of the city as the ship pulls away. Another special moment that says....We are on vacation.

D. There is no food close to the lines to board. If your going to be in line for a while, make sure you bring some snacks and drinks. There are vending machines for drinks close by, but the price is highway robbery.

Hope these help, let me know if you have any questions.

Some very helpful tips, thank you! I wonder if we've got the furthest away sailing date... maybe I'll be at the bottom of the list with a 12/5/2010 sailing date? Anyway, it's our bi-annual huge group cruise of friends and family. It seems so far away, yet I know it will sneak up on us and be here before we know it!

I'm really enjoying reading all of the reviews, tips, stories. Thanks!

Partyzone great advice thanks for sharing. I had a question you said you did the stay and sail option; I was wondering which hotel you did this with and how did you like it? Bob M and MsBadGRL2U are on your cruise so may be your guys can arrange a meet and greet.

Thanks Funmaker my doggies are very spoiled, but they deserve it. I miss them when I cruise.

I lied.....at least about the Stay and Sail. Given the 7 day parking rate of $115, I decided to see what kind of deal I can work.

For all my prior cruises, I did a stay and sail play at the coast hotel in Long Beach. This is about a 10 minute walk from the terminal. they provided a package with a one night stay, 7 nights parking, breakfast, and a shuttle back to the hotel for a great rate.

The problem was they were purchased, and their new website: www.jdvhotels.com/hotels/losangeles/maya

did not list a stay and stay package. On a lark, I called the hotel, and they actually do offer the package depanding on availability for that date!!!

the Package is $230....which might seem high at first, but it's great for a 4 start hotel on the ocean, when you do the math.

$230
-115 (Parking)-Included
-40 (Breakfast for Three)-Included
True Cost: 75$!!!!

So in the end you get a balcony suite and a 4 star hotel for an additional $75. too good to resist.

Throw in the benifit of an extra day added to the vacation, adn no thaving to fight traffic the day of sailing, and it's a great deal.

Thanks Funmaker for the information on the hotel. I wonder what kind of breakfast they have. I will had to check the hotel out on tripadvisor.

Misguidedangel that's great can you post the pictures on line. I love looking at cruise photos. Cruise photos help cure Post Cruise Depression (PCD).

I will be sailing on the Carnival Splendor January 10, 2010. It is a Christmas Present from both of my brothers for taking care of my parents for 14 1/2 years. I am so excited.

Hotel Maya looks like a nice hotel. I will have to add it to the list. Thanks for checking into the stay and sail package. Was the breakfast pretty good? I have had some breakfast included hotel were the breakfast was stale danish and old coffee.

The Last time I ate the breakfast there was 3 years ago and it was very solid, your typical buffet (waffle bar, omlete bar, etc.). Given the fact that this was before they upgraded teh hotel (20 MIL in renovations), I can only assume the quality of the meal has at least stayed the same.

I just got back yesterday from the Splendor. Left a long, rambling dissertation on my experience on the Splendor.

My least favorite cruise to date. Never again will I cruise out of the West Coast. A real snoozer.
