Hi Moirane let me know when you are going and I will add you to the list.

In both Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta there are resorts that do cruiser day passes. These passes include drinks, food, towels, and swimming pools. You would simply take a taxi over to the resort and relax by the pool.

I have heard Dream resort in Puerto Vallarta is good current price for a cruisers day pass is $58 per person. This is the e-mail I recieved from Dreams.

We do have Day pass for guests from Cruises

The cost is $58.00 USD per person and includes:
vFood and drinks.
vTowels and facilities use of the hotel.

The access to the rooms is not allowed for our guest’s safety.
It is necessary to drop an ID at the main gate which will be returned when leaving the property.
It does not include spa services, motorized aquatic sports, phone calls or internet.
This promotion is valid for 6 hours only.
The fee for 4-12 years old children is 50% discount on the adult rate.

The El Cid has resorts in Mazatlan, the resorts the resort I checked prices on was El Cid Moro. My e-mail was sent on 12/16/09 if you pre ordered and put down a $5 deposit the prices was $35 per person. The regular day pass is $65. Since the year changed they may have raised the price for 2010. Here is an e-mail that you can check on prices. [email protected]

Another option is a spa day. I have heard good things about,

Aroma Spa in Mazaltan here is a link to the website.
Packages

or

Metamorfosis day spa Puerto Vallata . Here is a link to the website.

Thank you katlady. I'll let you know when I nail it down. The Aroma Spa looks like a winner.

I wonder about the spa on the ship? I heard you could buy day passes reasonable. That hydrotherapy pool looks like something I would like.

This cruise looks like it may turn out to be a total pamperfest.

Book a spa cabin if you plan on using the spa pool and steam rooms. Otherwise you pay $35 a day or $149 for the week.

Thinking of doing that, but I may need the money for the Alaska cruise I'm thinking about in summer 2011.

Just to let you know two of your kids can legally drink in Mexico. Some kids can handle it at that age; others not so much. Mendano Beach in Cabo is fun with lots of water sports. Water taxi from port about $4 or so. To let you know Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta are on the Pacific Ocean, Cabo San Lucas is on both the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean. For snokeling the Sea of Cortez is clearer and calmer then the Pacific Ocean if you plan a snokel shore excurision I would suggest doing that in cabo. If you haveany questions just ask. Welcome to Cruisemates.
I appreicate the time you took, Katlady! 3 of us scuba and we are looking for the best places to go. It seems that the ship prices on the Splendor are less expensive than the ones available on shore. Do you know if they go to the same places? It'd be interesting to know. We all speak Spanish so I think we will be more than comfortable on shore but is there anything of which we should be aware, places to go that are not on the ship tours but are worth doing? Sorry to dump and ask so many questions. We have been to Mexico several times but this is a first for us on a cruise. Not sure what to expect.

Cabo glass factory is something I was thinking about doing. They do blow the glass there on site. You are lucky to speak spanish that will be a big help. Look over the pass pages there's a lot of good information. I was thinking of taking the boat over to yelapa in Puerto Vallarta. Here is a link to Yelapa. It's about an hour boat ride. But PV is my long day. Seems like it's more out of the way place to relax without all the tourists.
Welcome to Yelapa, Jalisco, Mexico

From my research (I don't scuba I'm looking at snorkeling) the best place to scuba/snorkel is in Cabo San Lucas near is Chileno beach/reef. Chileno have a coral reef. Not all the shore excursions stop here that ones that do will say it in the description. Cabo San Lucas is the only port on this cruise that goes to the Sea of Cortez and Chileno beach is on the Sea of Cortez. Here is a shorter video of Chileno reef.

Default I'm So Excited!

We are beginning to pack our bags with just a little less than a week before we start cruising!

I need to ask, should we bring pesos? We booked an off boat excursion with Mazatlan Frank which everyone said is excellent.
Mazatlan tours . Tours in Mazatlan, Cabo and Puerto Vallarta with Mazatlan Frank.
We will do a bit of shopping. Should we use pesos?
We speak a little spanish and will try to do conversions as much as possible. But we don't want to go through getting exchanged if most of our shopping will be paid with US $.

Thanks for any info!

USD will work fine. No need for pesos.

I have always used US dollars in Mexico some places may let you pay cash but give you your change in Pesos. I may get pesos this time. From what I heard the exchange they offer with only be 10-1. Today's exchange rate is 12.75-1 you will be charged fees to exchange. You can still save a couple bucks by exchanging it's up to you.

I've been reading a very long thread on another board regarding pesos. They are recommending you get cash out of an ATM at your first port and use the pesos you are given. It is generally cheaper than using your credit card (unless you have Capital One as they charge no international transaction fees) or paying for the exchange transaction at your bank. From what they are saying, you save 30% overall due to the exchange rate. If you use US dollars, the merchants are going to give you a 10-1 exchange rate.

If you plan on spending large amounts of cash the savings might justify spending your vacation looking for an ATM and worrying about the exchange rate. For the average cruiser buying a Tshirt and a couple of beers it likely would not make a lot of difference in total cost.

From what I have read, there is an HSBC one right there. They also only charge around 60 pesos for their fee. So not a lot at all. I live in El Paso, so if I have leftover pesos, I can spend them at a 7/11 here

The bank I use here will charge an exchange rate fee. But I can exchange unused pesos for free within 30 days.

My husband and I and some friends will be sailing on the Splendor on Oct 31.
This will be our first time to the Mexican Riviera.

To be honest, I'm not even sure if we'll be dressing up. We're just excited to be cruising again.

Just booked a last minute cruise for march 14. Our family has never been on Carnival before...there are 6 of us-4 kids. We'll be coming in from LAX. Can anyone recommend a shuttle for us? Also, any tips would be appreciated. Anything to help make this trip go smoothly!
