Default Whats the first thing you do?

The moment you first step on the ship is truly a great one. Nothing to do but have fun and relax. But what to do first? That is the subject of this post. Do you eat? Check out your room? Plant your butt at a bar? Does anybody do anything else than those things? Lets hear about it!

We did a spa tour last time and signed up to win prizes... we won a free facial... that was my first facial ever... it was wonderful.

I heard that they start doing free liquor samples while you are touring the ship and checking out the other bar areas. If this is true... guess what I'm doing first....

Actually, Briguy....
you know alot about these things... if they don't let you on the elvevators when you first get on, because they don't want you going to your room yet....
Then how do you get to the levels below, you know just to check out the casino, resturants, showroom, etc.

[color=indigo]We seem to be one of the first 50 or so onboard when we cruise, not counting the wedding parties, so our cabins are never ready.

Having said that, the first thing we do is head to the lido deck and the lido grill. My parents and I have cruised before, but my sister and her daughters had not, so it took us a bit longer to make our way there. Once there, the 3 of us have our favorites we order, and my sister and the girls soon discovered what will be the first thing they eat and do when going on a cruise.

After eating, it is time to see some of the ship and to find our cabins. We usually then head to our cabins to see if they are ready. We have always been able to at least place our carry on luggage in the rooms if they were not ready. Then about 2 we go back to the cabins and unpack any of the luggage that has made it to the cabin. Spend time on the balcony while waiting for Muster Drill, watching the people board and the baggage handlers load up luggage.

As to Ferrangi's question about elevators, we have always been able to use an elevator, however there was at times a long wait due to the fact that some of the elevators were strickly for the moving of luggage, but not all of them. There were elevators that passengers were allowed to use. Also, the steps could be used to get from deck to deck.

The first thing I, and the lovely Mrs. Jones usually do, is check our dining room table. We make sure we have the seating we requested, and then check with the maitre'd to make sure we are assigned to a LARGE table. After that, we "SNEAK" to our cabin, and drop off our carry-on luggage, then head to the Lido deck for lunch.

Thank you, I thought all the elevators were closed. That was way back on our first cruise, last time we were a little later and went directly to our room.

The first thing we do is take a mini tour of the ship, my daughter by this point has already memorized the deck layouts from online so she acts as my tour guide. Then we head to the lido deck and have lunch. Then it is off to tour the spa and childrens camp. We head to our room drop of our stuff and unpack any luggage until the muster drill. Then we head back to the lido deck lay out and swim until the sail away party!!!!!

First cruise was just simply stunned. Huge soaring lobby - big line already at the purser's desk, didn't really know where to go.

Second time around - much more comfortable, Lido, dinner (San Juan - late embarkation), and libation.

Another thing thats weird and I dont know if anybody else ever feels it but when I finally step on board after months of expectations I experience a little let down for a few minutes. Not sure why but it always happens. Maybe the wait is more fun than I thought. Its like your wedding day, all the planning and when it gets here it seems like its not as big of a deal as it seemed. Fortunately, it all goes away quickly and I get amped up all over again. Maybe its just how I am wired I dont know.

Thoth,
You're not boring. Because if checking out the cabin, then heading for the buffet is boring, count me in. It's a stormy day in Florida where we are today....now, that's boring. Too much lightning to go outside. Ona cruise, after the Lido, we check out our dining room table and request change if needed.

I don't think it's that weird.
We leave in 16 days and I'm already feeling like my vacation is almost over. I love the planning, the printing docs, checking out pics, etc... it's almost as exciting as the cruise... but I'm with you, the let down goes away and the fun begins. 8)

Only one big cruise ship under my belt so far - with my son who was 14 at the time (2007). After we got on board, and my what a thrill that was stepping aboard! I still remembet the thrill - we grabbed a nice cold drink at the Atrium Bar and headed to wait until we could get into our cabin. It was very exciting for both of us, it was an outside cabin - M118 on Sensation - and Ian called his dad (my ex) to tell him all about it. After we settled in and saw what stations the tv had to offer (I was so happy I could still get my CNN fix taken care of!!!) it ws time for the muster drill.

I'm cruising solo on Imagination in March and after I put my carry-on in my cabin, I will head up to spend the afternoon on Lido deck having something to eat and drink, and watching us sail out of Miami. I can't wait!

Stormy weather here in Mississippi as well. Some high school football games had to postponed due to lightning.
All this precedes an unseasonable cool spell. Highs in 80,s lows in 60's.
Next month I cruise New England/Canada thinking that they don't get hurricanes up there. WRONG! Hurricane Bill is headed that way.
Hopefully by mid-September tranquil seas will return to the Northeast Atlantic. 8)

I agree with Skymaster...we pay a visit to the Maitre d' a.s.a.p. to make sure our formal dining arrangements are what we requested. After that, up to the Lido for drinks, food and exploring.

The first thing we do is head for the Lido for a bit to eat. Then to our room to drop off our carry-ons & change into cooler cloths that we have brought with us. Last March I forgot to leave my winter coat in the car at the airport & had to carry it on the ship. I could not get rid of it fast enough!!! Then it's on to explore the ship, check out the dining room & purchase the wine package for the week, check out the spa, get a comp hot rock treatment & then off to find a nice cold Corona. AHHHH....life is good! We don't sail for another 125 days ..AAARRRRHHHHH !! It is just way too long a wait........

The first thing we do in to call our kids to let them know that we are on the ship and turning off the cell phones. We have to make sure that they can hear the music in the background just to rub it in a little bit. We also have to remind them that we won't be checking any messages until the ship gets back.

Well I'm a Californian so I don't own winter clothes.

When we get on board we try to go to the room. If not available we head to Lido deck for Lunch.

If we can drop off our carry on bags. Then we head to the salon so I can book my hair appointment for formal night after that we head to the speciaity resturant and make our dinner reservation. After that we head to Lido deck for lunch.

That is a great idea to head to the dining room to make certain you dining room seating is correct. We will have to do that next time.

a short prayer to say thank you for allowing me to be able to cruise..then I agree with Slugfest..then I explore the bathroom..then i go out to the balcony to meet my new neighbors..find my cabin steward to work out arrangements..then in the case of the jazz cruises..read the program that list dates/times of performances......then we go to the upper deck, get a DOTD and kick back 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

AirForce...if your kids are teenagers, you have just given them the ok signal to start the 7 day party without parental interruption (of course, because you are an air force person, we always have a plan, you didn't tell them which of your friends that you will have checking on them daily, unannounced)

Usually head to the room to see if it's available. This cruise in Nov I will be heading to get a Funship special and then the room and then the Lido deck for food.

Sky and Rose we never thought of checking out the dining seating first. Sounds like a great suggestion though. Usually we eat lunch, go to the cabin and then ck it out. I think we will ck out the table seating first.

Sky why do you prefer a large table vs a table for two?

We always check in early which usually means our room is not ready yet. The first thing we do is head to the Lido deck grill and grab one of the GREAT hamburgers. Don't know why, but Carnival cruise ship hamburgers are wonderful. After eating, we head to our room which is usually ready by this time. After unpacking, we go exploring around the ship to see where things are. It is traditon for us to go up to the bow of the ship (top deck) to watch the ship depart to open seas. There's nothing like it. The warm ocean breeze hitting us in the face as we pull away. Ahhhhh, I love cruising!

SNEAK" to our cabin, and throw our carry-on in the closet. Some times its a adventure because they have the double doors locked. Then to the DR to see where we are located. Then off to whatever turnes up.

We always try to be some of the first few people on board. Once on we do a quick tour to learn our way around. After that we head straight to the Lido bar and tell the bartender, "Bring me 2 Pina Coladas, I need one for each hand!!"
