Default Asked a 1000 times already

Hi All,

Was just wondering if anyone could recommend a nice yet inexpensive place to stay in the Miami area the night before leaving on the cruise.

Thanks to all responders,
Jeff

Are you driving or flying in? If driving, or flying in for that matter, check out the hyatt place near the airport. They offer shuttle service to and from the airport, a one way shuttle to the cruise terminal, and free parking for 2 weeks. The hotel had very nice rooms and the lobby area was nice as well. Rate was 122.00 per night well worth the money.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami Downtown. It was nothing special it was clean. However, the price was right and it was close to port across the street from Bubba Gumps (which was great for dinner). Here is a link to Tripadvisor reviews. It was fun to see all the cruise ships in the morning.

We are staying at the La Quinta Airport East. They advertised free pickup from the airport and a free ride to the port. The price was in the $60 range with the continental breakfast included. This will be our 1st time at the hotel, but listings from other sites indicated it was a decent stay.

We had stayed at this hotel in the past and found it very convenient, right across from the Bayside. However, in recent years, every time we check the price, it's around $150 a night. I do not consider that inexpensive. If you don't mind my asking, what you paid when you stayed there?

Someone else posted about a La Quinta for around $60 per night. Now that is inexpensive and within my price range.

BTW, I have used Priceline several times for a Miami pre-cruise night and gotten some great results for $45-50 a night.

This is allways a good question to ask. I need to book a pre-cruise place in Miami as well.

Thank's for all your recomendations.

Be aware that La Quinta gets mobbed with cruisers and the shuttles are by reservation only. The moment you check in make sure you get on their shuttle list or you will end up boarding your ship at 3pm.

Well it was in 2008, government rate, with 4 people in the room. So if I remember right it was around $150 per night and I split that cost with my sister. So $75 plus taxes for me and my hubby. A non goverment rate with less people would be more expensive.

I would recommend that you try Priceline:

Bid $90 on a 4* in the Downtown zone:
You would get the Hyatt Downtown or Intercontinental

If you do not get anything at 4* then lower your star level to 3.5* and your bid to $80
The hotel you will probably get is the Marriott Biscayne Bay

If you still don't get anything lower your star level to 3* and bid $60.
You will get the Sheraton Biscayne Bay, Doubletree, Hilton or Courtyard.

I personally would start at $60 but it lowers your chances and you may have to wait 72 hours after you've exhausted you bids.

On my last trip to Miami (April '09) I got the Hyatt Regency Downtown for $50.

All of the Downtown hotels are close to the port and Bayside Marketplace and some have port views.

Take care,
Mike

I booked La Quinta. Their price was hard to beat since it includes free shuttles.

We've only stayed overnight in Miami once and made the mistake of booking at the Days Inn Civic Center. It should have tipped me off when we drove past about 40 bail bonds places to get there. We checked in and within an hour, started seeing roaches. I complained at the front desk and asked to be changed to the Days Inn at the airport. They said no, and started talking in spanish that my boyfriend and I just wanted the room for an hour and were looking to scam them to get our $$ back. (Yes, white people DO speak spanish, especially if you live in a major city with a large hispanic population.) Anyway, we left, filed a complaint with the BBB and our case was closed after a year of going back and forth. The only compenstaion the Days Inn would offer us was $50 off our next stay.

We ended up at the Hampton East Miami Int'l Airport and were treated like kings. Upon hearing about our experience (and considering it was about midnight by the time we got there) the clerk reduced our rate to what we paid at Days Inn, comped our shuttle to the pier the next day, and even went outside to help us shake out all the clothing in our suitcases, since I refused to go up to my room until that was done. He also gave us free toothbrushes, a contact lens case, and a bunch of toiletries since I refused to use the ones that had been in the roach motel. They went above & beyond and while I'm sure there are closer hotels to the pier I know we'll be back at this one when we cruise next year.
