Default Fort Lauderdale or Miami Airport

Is it worth it to take a cheaper flight to Fort Lauderdale than Miami. If so what is the best way to get to the cruise terminal and how much will it cost from the airport to the cruise terminal. I will be getting in a day or two before so any help with hotel's close to the terminal would be great.

There are cruise line transfers available. A taxi will run you around $70 each way. A limo is about the same price.

People have found shuttle services that run around $25.

I personally would do the cruise line transfer.

Just make sure that the airfare savings are not eaten up by the transportation costs.

Take care,
Mike

I am sailing on the Valor on 9/20 out of Miami, I am flying into FLL because it is much cheaper. Shuttle service is $15 per person with SAS. www.ridesas.com Great communication from them.

Due to flight time and time differance I have to arrive the day before. I can't do "red eyes" anymore. It is cheaper for me to fly into FLL and rent a car and drive to Miami. We stay at the Holiday Inn across from the Bayside Markeplace we love Bubba Gumps, there is also a Walgreens near by where we buy soda and water to take on board. The drop-off loction I use for the rental car provides free shuttle to the pier.

Happy Sailing
Mark

We used GLS Shuttle Service last June when we flew into Ft. Lauderdale. Charge was $30. from the airport to the hotel, $75. from the hotel to the Miami Port, and, $60. from the Port back to the airport. Overall, we saved $250. by flying into Ft. Lauderdale instead of Miami. GlS shuttle was GREAT!

We prefer the cheaper flights in to FLL and have never had any problems with transportation. We like to fly in the day before and stay in one of the beach hotels inbetween FLL and the Miami port. There is a hugh number to choose from. It's like adding an extra port day to the cruise.

IMHO I think FLL is a lot easier to get in and out of than Miami. Just getting off the plane and getting your bags is a snap. Once in Miami, I had to wait 45-60 minutes to get my luggage. In May, I was there and I didn't even have my bags yet, the driver from RideSAS was calling me. He was right outside waiting on us. Also used them to get back to FLL. We were off the ship by 9, he picked up a few more people to have a full van, and were at the aiport by 10:30. $15 p/p is what they advertise and there is no catch. No hidden extras, just the tip. Will use them again.

Just a thought, how will FLL be affected once the Oasis of The Seas starts cruising from Port Everglades? 5-6000 passengers just from one ship every week, plus the other ships and regular traffic. It might turn into Miami.

I love Fll airport and hate Miami.......I will precruise for 2 days in Fll, and love every minute Wait till Oasis's sister comes to the port..the weekends there will be just scary, with these big ships emptying out...I thought I read there are plans to enlarge the airport..the trickle down theory for hotels, restaurants, services etc, will sure be a test, for pre & post cruisers...oy!

I would go for the FLL flight if there are considerable savings.
Holiday Inn Port of Miami is where we stay, it is a $8 taxi ride to the pier.
You are across the st from the Bayside Marketplace which has lots of stores, bars, restaurants, all set around a Marina.
You can always get a taxi over to South Beach for one of your pre cruise days. Shop, dine, people watch, hit the beach...

Thank all of you for the help I canceled the trip on the Valor and rebooked on the Dream out of New York for the same week.

For future reference on carnival.com at the bottom under "Already Booked?", "Airport Pier Transport" there is info.
