I would venture a guess and say the Radiance does have Johnny Rockets. We were on the Sovereign of the Seas last year before she was transfered or sold and the had a Johnny Rockets on there.

Thanks for clearing that up Dave. I'm not surprised. Marnier is the best RCI ship sailing here and that just started this year.

Well I'm happy to have gotten everyone's attention. I learned a lot on here and also understand The fighting over Health Care, Bankruptcies and high Home Foreclosures in this country a little bit better now. This was food for thought so on your next cruise you will keep me in mind be it CCL or RCCL. Watch your money because " Nobody can watch or spend your money better than you can". I'm headed to RCCL thread and spread my autotip filth by CCL.This Joecru signing off and saying "Good Luck and Happy Cruising" and WATCH YOUR MONEY.
This thread has almost caused a fistfight and divorce.
Tonight at supper I was advised by my wife I would in the future have to tip
according to the type of bologna sandwiches and bread I got, whether or not I got my own diet coke or she fetched it and that I was being automatically charged $ 7.00 per week "alternative service charge " just for the hell of it.
All because she read on a cruise board about tipping and other charges--- 44 years of marriage down the drain for $ 7.00.

You know and I know she deserves every bit of the $7 so fork it over buddy. Or she could just remove it from your credit card.

Holy cow! I'm back on the boards after a long break and picked up this thread as my first. What a welcome back in the wacky world of cruising and cruising opinions. It's never dull around here.

Oh I had such a wonderful time ont he Glory... oh my. Totally worth the tips. I actually pre pay my tips when I pay for my cruise. That way they are not charged to my sign and sail. And i tip extra to my room steward. A couple of times at the begining of the cruise. Boy did we get special treatment that time. Totaly worth it.

We have sailed twice. Each time we had our gratuities included in our fare. At the end of the cruise, we tipped extra because the service was worth it. Our room was kept spotless. We didn't have to ask for extra towels. Tissue was always available. The ice bucket was never empty. Our dining room service was excellent. Maybe we are a sucker for people remembering our names, that we liked tea with our meal, and to always bring two shrimp cocktails. I like my napkin placed in my lap. Its those little things that make the trip enjoyable for us. We are planning our next cruise and will again add our tip to our fare. But, we will also have extra cash for our servers. We tip at restaurants and if your party is over a certain number, they automatically add 20% now. So, when all is said and done, tip, and have a great time. I always say choose your battles, and this one isn't worth fighting.
Honestly with wbat I spend on a cruise I can't be bothered tp worry over $7. Besides as I have said in the past and never gotten an answer to How does the dishwashing crew get paid? Nobody is working for free so you paying for it one way of the other.

We just returned yesterday from a 7 day cruise on the Liberty. I have in front of me my Sail & Sign Statement. The only service charges I had were the upfront "Service Gratuity" charges of $70 per passenger ($10.00 per day). CCL says it is distributed as follows:
$ 3.50 Per Day Stateroom Services
$ 5.50 Per Day Dining Room Services
$ 1.00 Per Day Alternative Services: distributed to other kitchen and hotel service staff
There were two folks servicing our room: the room steward and an assistant.
We had a main waiter and an assistant.
I didn't see any of my wait staff on the Lido deck. Most of what I saw were very friendly staff cleaning tables, bringing coffee and juices and helping disadvantaged folks in wheelchairs and with walkers.
So I don't understand what all the fuss is about, If joecru has a problem with the $7 dollars and how it is destributed, he can go directly to the pursor, have the charges removed and pay the staff directly what ever he wants to.
Wow talk about cheap! I have dated someone who works on a ship now. Do you know these employees work 7 days a week, or more and can work as many as 18 hours a day? They work very, very hard. Most have to work several jobs. Did you notice the staff is usually not Americans? That's because Americans can't handle all the hours. Even while they try to sleep the staff is constantly woke up by the loud speakers calling certain teams (employees) to their positions. $10 per day for 24 hour service is a steal!

I work for Tips also Showcat. So I guess I am a good tipper when we go out or on a cruise.
They work very hard for there money and deserve every penny they get and then some. I also leave a tip for the room cleaner in a hotel. She also has a thankless job. At least I think the tip says I see how hard u work. Good job!
I can empathize with service workers. I once was employed as a "formal dining room attendant" at a country club. Duties were remarkably like the assistant waiters on cruise ships....bus tables, set up buffets, pour water, ext. These bourgeoisie country club snobs treated me like a proletariat lowlife. We were paid minimum wage with a strictly no tipping policy.
That experience has made me a much nicer patron toward those handling my food & drinks.

what it all boils down to is that the cruise ships are doing what
restraunt(?) owners are doing in the good old USA.
The waiters get minimal pay, less than minimun wage.
When you add the tip to your debit or credit card it goes to subsidies the wage that person gets. I'm sure that cruise ships are doing the same so really the workers are not getting there tip.
Thats why I tip each person and shake there hand and say Thank You to them.

what's the difference if it's on your credit card on you hand it to them?
Last month on the Triumph I handed my cabin steward and both of my dinner servers an envelope each and told them to the effect..."thanks for looking after me". That is a wonderful feeling !
A cruise should still have a personable experience. Sure I love the ports and the shows, and the food, but the people are a huge element which brings me back. 8)

I left my tips on my credit card and I tipped extra by handing them the cash. The workers are very grateful. Having just gotten off the Glory myself I can say the service was excellent!
