When you see carnival interiors what do you think of?

Carnival's interiors are "eclectic." I have to admit I have never seen anyone say they thikn Carnival has the most beautiful ships in the world.

Personally, my theory is that the decor is intentionally inane just to make you forget your everyday standards of normality, lowering your inhibitions and making you giddy - and more likely to enjoy your cruise...

It's an odd strategy, but but seems to work. What do you think of when you see these interiors? (from Splendor)

Well I think that the ships are pretty !
Obviously Joe Farcus utilizes psychology on us in that red is not simply a color, nor is blue. These color schemes are intended to manipulate emotions.

I think Joe Farcus has permanent flashbacks.

It's more like a cross between Las Vegas and Times Square on New Year's Eve. Spirit class ships are more subdued with a few exceptions.

But despite that, and Carnival's tipping policy, it is still the best cruise line and my favorite!

I see Carnival Dream is going to have a laser light show (seriously). That should be interesting.... Oh, the colors!

I've met Joe Farcus and he seems like a normal guy. I never saw him staring at the sun.

He did say something about seeing trails to me once, but we were at a national park.

No, seriously. Carnival has great cruises in oh so many ways, but I just don't see how anyone could say they are pretty ships.

Interesting, different, compelling, unique, daring, bold....

but pretty? I dunno 'bout dat!

The pic of the dining room makes me think of a very nice resturant set up for a special party and the the lounge areas make me think of a receptiona area of a large hotel.

Both places I would be happy to be at.

I think the decor is tinged with exagerations. The shapes of the decorations, seating, lighting, have a cartoonish bent to them. All of this is done, I think to keep us a little off balance, and remind ourselves for the time we are onboard to think fun....relax, and enjoy!

How about Gotham City only red/purple/fushia replaces black? But yes, I love cruising Carnival. My husband says it well. Miss (Ms?) America is pretty, but sometimes you like the girl with the punked out purple hair.

When I get on the ships. I cant wait to see all the great colors. i love the glitz and loud colors. I think its a great cruise.... Not like at home ...I want the different I guess. Love it.......

I think you are onto something there Paul. I would never call the Carnival interiors refined or elegant, but refined and elegant don't tell me to have fun.

They are also not the gaudiest designs at see. That shows Farcus does have method to his madness.

old Vegas not new Wynn Vegas -- and actually Valor is not quite over the top like some of the other colors/ships and
the Imagination I have dubbed the ship of the golden hooters.... LMAO

everything from the mini-statutes, to the paneling above the windows, etc resememble hooters... sorry had to post that...

Valor is one of the scariest ships ever built. It has those little green eyeballs staring at you everywhere you turn, like little blobs that invaded a cruise ship.

If you make any comparisons to Vegas it is OLD Vegas - not Wynn Vegas. It is the Horseshoe or Barbary Coast. - Perfect insight.

Still better than the NCL Dawn. Don't get me wrong, I loved the ship overall and had a great time, but the decor, especially the carpet colors, made me afraid to get seasick, since it made me queasy just watching where I was going!

Don't get me worng, I don't think carnival is "tacky" for what they do. I think they are crazy (but not a bad crazy) - sometimes I do like the punk rocker with the purple hair.

But it is more like those punk rockers who used to wear the plaid scotch pants with a ripped black t-shirts and piercings in their nose, carrying a bottle of Moet and dancing a mexican hatdance. Its a jumble...



NCL Dawn...

You're right, I have not seen some of these older NCL ships. I like the new ones, the Pearl, etc. I think they are a bit "shocking" what looks like full sized kingsized beds in the lounges. Its like "when does the orgy start?

Hey Paul I know I'm going to get crushed by the CCL lovers but here it goes. I think the ships tacky, dark (also not well lit) carnival-esk if that's a word (as in a circus) and pretty much ugly. But CCL does have the best ports of call. For the curious on my cruises and it's only 18. Sorry

It depends on the ship. For instance the Holiday is stuck in the disco era but most of the newer ships of Carnival remind me of the Batman movies. Decor doesn't detract from my cruise experience, but decor can add to it. Carnival's decors have never enhanced my cruise experience. On the other hand the ships of Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have.

All right .... The those tattooed arms are ugly, cheeky, cheesy, gaudy, whatever.
That atrium however is elegant and generally within good taste.
