Stingray City in Grand Cayman is a much better experience and the sandbar is shallow. It's the one that has been around the longest. The ride out to the sandbar is quite nice...

Hi, has anybody tried this? I have a 14 yr old and a 10 yr old. Only have time and money for one excursion. Pro's and con's? Thanks.
If you only have time and money for one excursion on Grand Cayman then this is the one to do.
It is something you will never forget. I prefer doing an excursion that lets you snorkel the reefs "and" visit Stingray City sandbar. This way you get the best of both. You do see rays in deep water but you are able to easily touch and feed the rays at Stingray City. The deep water will give you a chance to see some other sea life.
Have fun on your cruise!

I have been to Sting Ray City in Grand Cayman on my first cruise. This cruise I am not going to Grand Cayman and will be taking my brother on his first cruise. I would love to share the experience of sting rays. How does Cozumel's compare to Grand Cayman's? Is it worth the cost or are there other thing in Cozumel that are better?

While the Stingray City tour in the Caymans has been around for a long time, the facility in Cozumel offers several advantages. First it is a very short taxi ride (fare is included in the tour price) from your ship, which does not eat into your precious time ashore. Secondly, there is a very high guide to guest ratio meaning you get very personalized attention. This, plus the fact that the site is right on the beach and the rays are de-barbed, means that safety is maximized. They do a great job of briefing you so that you learn about the rays and how to handle them plus all the info on your snorkeling gear, all of which is included. The facilities at Stingray Beach in Cozumel include restrooms with changing/showering, a snack bar, and a souvenir shop. Professionals take pictures all during your ray encounter and those are available for purchase on a CD at the end of your 3 hours.
Any idea what the Cozumel place is called? Is it booked thru the ship or not? We did the one in Grand Cayman and loved it, but we are going back to Cozumel and would like to try it there.
