Default Fantasy moving to Charleston, Elation to Mobile

This just in...starting in May 2010, the Fantasy will sail from Charleston. The Elation will move to Mobile. No word on anything for SoCal.

Happy for Charleston and Mobile!! I was hoping for Galveston, though. I'm sure we'll get our chance soon.

Not so Kat. We only loaned it to you. I was on board to bring it to San Diego so I will probably be on board to take it back home. Elation is probably my favorite ship so it will be good to have it at the port closest to home. 8)

I was booked for a 7-night on the Fantasy for next July. I just got the fax informing me my booking had been moved to the Elation. Not a problem!

Wow, fantastic.

The Elation was my first Carnival ship. I really enjoyed sailing from Mobile last month so this is good news.

The Elation is one of the 4 Carnival ships that we have not sailed on....Carnival just made THAT a lot easier to take care of!!!

Anyone thinking of doing th 15 day repositioning cruise through the Canal????

I cruised on the Elation when she was in Galveston in 2005. She had become my favorite Carnival ship at that time. She was in Galveston while the Ecstasy was in New Orleans.

We booked the 15 day Panama canal last night. Tried to get the Funsaver OV but all gone. Only 3 unobstructed Cat. 11 were left. Its booking up fast. We ended up in an aft OV Cat 6E.
Should be quite a trip!!

We were talking about this today. Wish we could take the time off. Been wanting to do a transit for awhile now.

Wow!!! It is booking fast. I don't know why Carnival doesn't realize how fast their Panama Canal cruises sell, and do 3 or 4 a year.

You didn't loan it long enough. I did get to enjoy her on a six day cruise to Mexico in 2007. We had a great time. Bye Elation we will miss you. Elation goes there the canal 4/30/10 it's a 15 day cruise. Elation has some Cat 11 and 12 suites with balconies, but no 8A or 9A. None of the Fantasy class ships have 8A-8E or 9A.

Not true the Sensation and after this month the Ecstasy have 8A-8E balconies.

The Elation and Paradise were short changed when they went through dry/wet docks this past March and December respectively. They did not get the inter-connecting cabins, balconies, Waterworks, or the Resort style pool.

That's right Dave. Even though the Elation is a new ship than the Fantasy, I personnally would have preferred to keep the Fantasy. It's new lido deck area is very nice with much better furnishings and it has the water park. Our grandkids were really looking forward to having the Fantasy here and it will be here and gone before they are even out of school.

Its next drydock is not scheduled until 2012 based on the three year schedule. I have posted a "please respond" on John Heald's blog asking that exact question.

The only thing I can figure is the ship yard on the Westcoast could not do the upgrades as both Westcoast ships were skipped. Luckily the shipyard in Mobile did the work on the Fantasy. It would mean pulling the ship off-schedule for about two weeks.

To me, it would have made more sense to do the upgrade to the Elation and then send it to Charleston or at that point keep her in Mobile. Having the balcony upgrade would definitely help on keeping the bookings strong.

If they had kept the Fantasy in Mobile according to all the "Carnival Hoopla" we have heard for a couple of years here, the Elation could have been upgraded in Mobile while leaving the Fantasy in operation here. At that point either ship could have been sent on to Charleston, with no interruption of service to Mobile and with only a slight delay to the start up in Charleston.

Mobile kept the bookings full on the Holiday the whole time we had it and I see no problem with Mobile continuing to fill a larger ship.
