Humpback whales start the mirgation from Alaska to Hawaii in December then stay in Hawaii until April. I'm not sure if that is important to you, but I thought I would throw that in. Cruisemates does have a group cruise to Hawaii on 2/26/11. It's a 14 from Los Angeles and back on Princess. Here is a link to the information. http://www.cruisemates.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=613088

really? OK --------- and thats a 12 nighter I think. If only my work would let me take that much time off. I might just have to plan far in advance.......but 5 days at sea is a lot. However, I would enjoy doing NOTHING!

Carnival also either leaves from Enseneda or Vancouver. I have heard that in order to leave from Enseneda it requires a long bus ride from LA. I'm not in to that at all. We did 5 sea days when I was on the Transatlantic cruise. The sea days go faster than you think. But I love the ocean.

My husband and I did the repositioning cruise in 2006. We boarded in Honolulu and then disembarked in Vancouver. Did it this way on the reccomendation of my mother who had done a repo cruise on RCL, but boarded in Ensenada. They did the 5 days at sea and then a week running around the islands, and she said they were exhausted when they got on their flight home. We did the opposite and the 5 days at sea flew by and gave us lots of time to relax and rest up to get ready to dive right back in to real life.
For me the cruise offerings to Hawaii just aren't worth it. I would rather stay longer and see more on one Island than just a glimpse of several ports.
It's a "to each his/her own" decision and we decided to go back to Hawaii for 8-days in March 2010.
We did 16 day HAL cruise to Hawaii. There was also the option of doing 8 days either at beginning or end. Had to take Amtrak from L.A., where we lived at the time, down to San Diego. Stopped at Ensenada for those who were only doing half the cruise, but no one was allowed to get off the ship. Okay by me, done Ensenada too many times. Had 5 sea days, then 5 port days, then 5 more sea days returning. I loved the first 5 days, but caught a cold in one of the ports, or on board (no way to tell), so the last 5 days were pretty miserable for me. But, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I liked getting a taste of the different ports. They were Kona, Kuai, Honolulu, Hilo and Maui.

i would definitely do the 5 sea days at the end of the cruise - and your right - a lot of R & R will be nice. Now.........to get my work to let me off that long is a different story. I'm working on it however. And saving for a flight to hawaii would cost $$!
Well.... I'll be doing the Carnival Spirit from Ensenada to HI in April, 2010, so look for lots of picture!
The bus ride is from San Diego, but they will transport you from LAX to San Diego, if you wish. Those transfers are included with the cruise, whether or not you use cruise air.
I think I like the 5 sea days upfront. Plenty of time to relax - the calm before the storm. Staying in HI a couple of days after the cruise before returning to reality.
