Triumph and New Orleans Port
Hi All! Going on the Triumph on Dec 26, 2009. We usually take the Carnival transportation Transfers. However, the ship docks in New Orleans at 8am and Carnivals website says the earliest flight to book should be 11:30am. Northwest has a flight that leaves at 11:25. Think I might be able to make that flight? Would my chances be better if I took a cab instead of Carnival transportation? Are cabs easy to get there? I've never been to the New Orleans airport before.
Also, our stops will be Progreso and Cozumel. Any ideas or tips on Progreso?
Cabs are usually easy and would be cheaper than Carnival transfers.
Use some of the savings to get a porter to take your luggage. They bypass a lot of the line for immigration and then take your luggage all the way to the taxi.
There is lots in Progreso I like, but meeting time. :-(
Hi we have cruised out of new orleans twice and both times were
held up by customs and we weren't off the ship until 10am, and
we did self debarkato. Remember that the airport is about 45 min.
away. anything before 1pm maybe a problem. They seem to have
issues with customs officials for some reason there, understaffed
I think. Have a great cruise
I'm from NOLA - and the airport is pretty far away from the terminal. Depending on traffic (usually a lot) I would not chance it. Its a darn if you do darn if you don't situation - but if you could get a 1pm flight it would make your life much less stressful.
I just love this website. I'm taking your advice and taking a later flight.
1pm is safer, and I gave you the trick for immigration. The airport is a lot closer than, say the airports for Galveston.
I don't use Carnival transfers in New Orleans or most places, but Carnival does say 11:30am, so the 11:25am should be possible. If people were missing planes right and left, you would hear about it and Carnival would update the website.
You would be debarked as a Carnival tour group, so would receive some priority. maybe next time I'll try that to find out exactly what their process is, but I have a feeling you need to be ready to leave early. Personally, I prefer to take my time.
If the ship were late the flight could be a problem, but then, so could the 1pm, although you have some margin.
As for Progreso, I like it - more like real Mexico. Cozumel is more like the 51st state but with nice beaches and water.
Here are pictures from a couple of things I have done on Progreso stops....
Uxmal - one of the ruin tours
and just hanging out in town - walking around, double-decker bus, food at one of the better known restaurants...
