Anyone Ever Use Ernesto's Rentals Cozumel?
We are going to be in Cozumel in Feb. next year, and want to rent a Jeep and go out on our own. We did this in 07, but rented from Enterprise and were less than pleased. We had a great time on our own and had no problems driving in Cozumel. We were able to go the the other side of the island. It is less hurried, and very pretty. If you know anything about Ernesto's please let me know. Good, or Bad.

I don't know about that particular company, but I can give you a long list of people who have had problems renting anything mechanical in Mexico. They are good mechanics, but parts are hard to come by and they sometimes have to improvise. Vehicles can and do break down. Bad enough if you get stuck on the other side of the island, but a friend almost lost her life because of brake failure there. Hate to be a wet blanket, but I have to advise not to go for rentals in a third world country. JMHO.

Thanks for your opinion. As I said I have done this before I know the risks, and am willing to take the risks. I truly just want info on this particular rental agency. Then I will make the decision on my own. Went through Vietnam, and traveled extensively, so no Virgin here.

Ernesto's Jeep Rental
Hey Gary,

Fellow traveler with same question. Did you ever get an answer to this question? I'll be in Cozumel in a week and was considering Ernesto's. Did you use them?

Thanks, Dave

BTW....My family is from Hutch. Do you know any McElheny's? We go way back.

No I never did get an answer. We did not use them. We ended up using enterpise at the pier. It was a little pricier. Be aware things have changed since the last time we rented. There was a thread about a guy who hit two locals on a motorcycle. They were injured, but not severely. He had to come up with a bunch of cash to get out of jail. The insurance did not help. It was for lost wages of the two guys as they healed. He spent several days in jail. I will now stick to taxis. We have been to Coz 7 times, so seen about all we need to see.
Small world. Don't know any McElheanys now. Knew some back in the old days. I knew a Jim in High School, would be about 62 now. You know the 60's:D. Enjoy your cruise. Cozumel is a beautiful, and a pretty safe place.

PS you really had to dig to find this thread:rolleyes:
