We were on that cruise and were shocked to find out, after we disembarked, about this murder. carnival handled this is a very professional manner. We did hear a code called overhead the night we let Cabo and my SIL and I are both nurses and we joked at the time that we were glad that no one knew we were nurses. But the staff never missed a beat, the cruise continued all of the scheduled activities and no one except the passengers on the McGill's deck near their room knew that there was a problem. We did notice increased security the next 2 days at sea. But we thought maybe it was drug related.
It was a horrible story, but Carnival handled it so well. We really appreciated thir professionalism.
We have 3 cruises booked coming up in 2010! All on Carnival!
Im a nurse also - surgical for the last 30 years - and when I'm on vacation I always say "I am NOT a nurse today"...lol.. meaning.....I DON"T Want to work - don't ask me - . . I think we all say that, but if something would happen and we were there, instinct would not let us just sit and watch. Its not our nature. I'm glad Carnival handled it so well. Makes me glad I sail carnival - one of many reasons. :-) It would have been awful to bum out everyone on the cruise and i'm glad few people knew about it. Havn't read the whole story........so guess I better do that now!
We were in the karoke lounge waiting for our dinner seating when the code was called. we were a great distance from the deck where she was found.
I agree if something happened in my proximity then of course we would have responded, but the code called was "brightstar" which we later learned meant a passenger had died. it wasn't a typical code that we would know the meaning of or what response was required.
My SIL in a adult ICU RN now training for his master's in anesthesia. I am a NICU III RN. so if it was a person over 3 mo old, had teeth or walked, I would be of little help! Just basic cpr is all I would be able to assit in.
We were just so impressed that Carnival handled such a horriffic event with such professionalism and avoided any panic.
