We did Tabayana beach at Roatan and Xunatanich ruins in Belize. But a table mate did the horses in Belize and she enjoyed it very much. The only thing is if you do the horses make sure you take bug spray with you.

Cave tubing and zip line combo is the most popular in Belize. We used “Action Boys Belize” for our excursion. You may want to look into it. Have fun.

We just returned from Roatan and Belize a couple of weeks ago. We were on the Valor.

I second the recommendation of bug spray for BOTH ports.

Unfortunately, we have not done the tour you are talking about.

This was our second time in Roatan...our 4th or 5th in Belize.

Two things I wanted to add:

Roatan:

1. In Roatan if you are getting a taxi to the West End....and you want to go to the BEACH...make sure you say West End Beach...if you want to go the the West End shopping part....make sure you say West End TOWN.

If you are going to the beach..there is a left hand turn that is made before you descend off the mountain.

We went to the beach this time...because we went to town the last time.
I thought they would be fairly close...I was WRONG.

You can also take a water taxi from the beach to the town area and back.
I think it was $3 a person one way.

Belize:

Secondly....I have recommended Gilbert Young (Gilley) for years in Belize. He had a kiosk at the Wet Lizard Restaurant inside the Village.

Sadly, Gilley has become ill and Melvin Davis is now running that kiosk.
I talked with Melvin briefly and he seemed to be just as nice as Gilley was.

This is a good option for folks who don't know what they want to do and want to wait until they get to the Village to make up their minds.

You can make reservations...but they are not required.

If I may ask, have they completed the work they were doing at the pier area in Roatan?
The last time I was there they were still working to make a second pier and
apparently a shopping area. Curious as to what's been done.
And too, since there's been some trouble on the mainland of Honduras re/ politics, has it had any effect on the Island of Roatan that you could tell?
We're going back there in Feb. and was curious.
Thanks for any info. you care to offer.

I hate to admit that I did not pay that much attention to a "second pier".

We docked where we had docked in the past and the stores are all open and looking good.

I am guessing that the second pier is open (or is opening soon) BECAUSE John Heald (CD on the Legend) wrote in his Blog about the Captain having to attention some instructional class there in the port about how to dock "at the new pier".

No, the trouble on the Mainland did not affect our stop at all. Now that is not to say that it won't in the future....but we were there the end of September and Roatan was fine. We just grabbed a taxi to the West End.

From Johns blog....
"Roatan...beginning next month the Carnival ships will be docking at the new pier built by the Hondurans and Carnival Corporation. The official name of the pier is Mahogany Cruise Center."

Would you recommend the Cozumel/Belize City/Roatan/Grand Cayman itinerary or the Half Moon Cay/St. Thomas/San Juan/Grand Turk one?

Thanks so much!
