I have heard of people running late, just keep an eye on the time. How much time do you have from the end of the excursion to when the ship sails?? There are certain ports that I will only book a ship's excursion if time is an issue.
While there has been a couple of reported close calls.....for the past 6 years or so that we have been sailing to Belize (and watching the threads accordingly)....I have not read of a single case where Yhony or Major Tom has missed the ship.
YEARS ago, when Costa Maya was the next stop after Belize....missing the ship would have not been all that tramatic...since it would have just been a 6 hour ride to Costa Maya to catch the ship.
However, since that is not the case these days...missing the ship would be bigger hassle.
When hubby and oldest son did it May 2008 with cave-tubing.com (Yhnoy)
they left at 9:15AM and returned at 2:30PM. (we sailed at 4 or 5...so it was no big deal) But I did have their passport information, a credit card and some extra cash with them in a water resistant thingy that hangs around your neck...just in case they missed the ship)
HERE is the problem now. Now that Carnival does not offer that as a tour (and since it is "the thing to do in Belize") .... independent operators are having to deal with larger crowds than in the past.
So while I have not heard of anyone missing the ship....one must be aware that that is always a possibility with any independent operator and plan accordingly.
COMPLETES THE FLEET
If it is Carnival and it floats....we have sailed it!
Hubby ... DIAMOND (every ship except the Carnivale)
Me ... DIAMOND (every ship starting with the Tropicale)
20 year old son ... DIAMOND (every ship starting with the Tropicale...he is the only DOUBLE Milestone under the age of 21)
24 year old son ... DIAMOND
It sounds somewhat "hit or miss" depending on a few independent variables that in the end may spell out a certain doom. In that case I'm leaning towards booking a CCL sponsored excursion, most likely the mountain bike tour.
Better safe than sorry, or should I say.....stranded!
I was on the Glory last week and did the cave tubing tour with Major Tom. They were very aware of the time and strictly enforced all safety rules.
I was very pleased with Major Tom and will use him again. We left the dock at 9:30 and returned about 1 hour before the last tender. Yes it is possible to get left anytime you do an outside tour but this is a very responsible tour operator. 8)
This is a fantastic experience and should not be missed!!!
