COZUMEL HIGHLIGHTS & SHOPPING excursion - thumbs up or d
I'm considering this excursion, so for anyone who has taken it, please share your pros and cons of it. I'll be cruising with my mom in March, and I'll be 51, she'll be 73. I can't do a lot of walking so I'm trying to decide between Playa Mia beach deluxe and this bus tour.
Do you get to get off and walk around and take photos?
Is the motor coach equipped with a restroom?
Does the bus have to go up or on on any mountain roads? I'd only want to do this excursion if the bus stays on flat ground.
Cozumel is a fairly flat island, so no worries on that. I have yet to see any bus in the Caribbean that has restrooms except maybe once and I would not have wanted to use it. But, even if you stay on the bus for photo op/restroom stops, you will still get to see some of the island, rather than just the beach. Nothing against beaches at all, I love them, but to me, the whole point of going to a foreign port is to see a foreign port.
Also, as someone who also has mobility problems, walking on sand can be brutal.
I did this tour in Feb ---and it was ok-----sorry I cant remember if there was a bathroom on the bus --but there were several that were available at the shopping area. I'm not really a shopper but at least we were able to see what was out there---and see the other side of Coz as well---Having been there several times before -but years since my husband was with me-----going back again in Jan--with the CruiseMates group---I hope my husband goes fishing while I go on the bar hopping with a group----
As for walking--it was pretty easy---and you can always sit down somewhere and people watch---
Enjoy whatever you do
Just an FYI, we have seen in a few restrooms (baño) where someone, usually an older lady, will be outside accepting tips. A dollar is usally what they look for.
So if you visit one of these and see them, thats what its about.

20 years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs. Now we have no Cash, no Hope and no Jobs. Please don't let Kevin Bacon die.
Thanks, I will, I've been anxious to cruise again since my first in 2007 and while I had one planned for 2008, we had to move so that plan had to be scrapped. I so hungry for this cruise! 4 months go to!
I will definitely do this bus tour though, when I DO cruise to Cozumel! I do prefer to see a country, not just go sit on a beach, but my mom lost her hubby to cancer in March, after a 2-year battle from hell during which they took out one of his lungs) so I' don't mind doing the excursion she prefers. I love it all!
Hugs to you, Michelle, for being so compassionate toward your mom. I'm sure that, at some point, you will be rewarded with your dream cruise. And, your attitude toward cruising is right on target. If you go expecting to enjoy it all, you will!
