Default Conquest, why so expensive?

We are cruising on the Conquest in Feb 2010, going east to the Bahamas. Any idea why that cruise is $200 more expensive than those trips heading west? Is it because it goes goes that route 1x month? When we booked, luckily, it was cheaper then it jumped up and has stayed up. Thanks!!

Hi Frank,

Much of cruise pricing is deep voodoo to us cruisers. Much of it has to do with capacity control. It might be that this particular cruise is extremely popular for some reason. You might be cruising with a large group that has booked a lot of cabins.

Demand usually drives up the price of the cruise. If there is little demand then the price will be lowered to attract new bookings. This is why the rates will fluctuate in the months before sail date.

I think that they have Texas cruisers enthusiasm, about sailing from their home port, and are so tired about sailing west, they can charge them extra for going east, with the higher demand for a change in itinerary. Maybe the added fuel has something to do with the higher price as well.

If you are crusing on February 21, 2010 then there is a group cruise booked at the same time. The Quilting Cruise is booked for that time.

I agree about it being out of Texas, where Carnival must think they have hit the mother load of money.

Many people that I have talked to, would rather cruise out of Galveston to avoid the plane fare, and are thrilled to be going in a different direction.

Just because all the people who sail from Texas are tired of the 'same ole' itinerary so there is more demand for the new one. Once everyone has sailed it it should go down in price and demand. I really don't care for that itinerary, but like everyone else I had to try it. (Twice actually) I love Key West, but why go to the Bahamas?
