She wouldn't have been my choice. Couldn't they have found someone better known all over the world? What was Carnival's reasoning for choosing Marcia Gay Harden? I know she is a stage actress and I have seen her in one movie, Mystic River. She may be well known in New York and on Broadway but does not appeal to a broad range of people. Especially the important role as Godmother of THE DREAM, good grief. Samantha Brown of the Travel Channel would have been a good choice, in my opinion.

IMDB lists 76 performance credits but I wasn't familiar with her either.

I am thinking the other reasons for selecting her are important....
since they were having the ceremony in Manhattan..."stage and theater" actress was key.
She is very involved with St Judes Children's Hospital and since Carnival is now involved with St Judes....it was a good fit.
She has won an Oscar and a Tony ....
and (and I think most importantly)....her father (now deceased) was a Captain in the Navy.
