Default Luggage fees or fuel supplement charges on Carnival Victory?

I was just wondering because somewhere on the internet I read that Carnival has begun charging luggage fees for certain types of luggage. If anybody knows about this let me know. Also I'm seeing that the price of oil has surpassed $80 a barrel. I was wondering if anybody's heard if the cruise lines will implement the $9 per day per passenger surcharge to the cruise fare. I'm scheduled to go on the Carnival Victory on Feb.21 and need to know to work out my budget for the cruise. I would really appreciate any help you all can give me.

Re / the fuel surcharge, I certainly hope that's not reinstated as I'm going on the Dream in Feb. Guess we'll have to wait and see on that for a bit.

Re/ charges for certain types luggage, I've never heard that one -- but in all honesty I wouldn't blame the cruise lines if they started to charge for extra baggage-- the loads of luggage I've seen some people bring for a 7 day cruise boggles the mind.

I remember a thread here of somebody claiming they were charged for luggage tags at the pier. I think they may have gotten taken by a porter.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Porters are contracted through a company, not Carnival's employees....
Soooooo, I give them a big smile & make sure I tip them before their hand comes out...
This way your luggage will get to your cabin...

With the new baggage regulations and overweight fees, now charged by the airlines, people are downsizing. I know we did last month. From 2 large suitcases to 2 medium ones....I have never heard of any line charging for baggage.

Nope...We're just back from "Glory", and no fuel surcharge (yet) and no extra charges for baggage. I agree with the posters above that it wouldn't surprise me to see something come along for oversize/extra bags, but so far, we're O.K.

It's sad to say but if they ever start charging for luggage on the cruise lines DW and I will be hurting. No matter how hard we try we still over pack.
