My brother and I-both in our mid 20's but act our age- are staying at a small hotel-Villa Europa Hotel- close to the boardwalk in Hollywood, FL for a couple of day prior to our cruise of on the Carnival Freedom that sails on Jan 16th. Neither of us have been to that area before and we are trying to find what places-bars/pubs, restaurants, other places-that we should not miss while we are there.

Other than the boardwalk, the beach, and the casino, I could be wrong, but, I'm not real sure there is much more action.....I think you would find Fort Lauderdale, right up the road, a much more interesting place.....tons of bars/pubs, museums, great dining, shopping, etc....check out the Lauderdale article I wrote under ports of call....http://www.cruisemates.com/articles/...lauderdale.cfm
I hope someone who has stayed in Hollywood will share soem info here with you...

One place you have to go to is the famous Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor on Federal Highway...a real funky old fashioned ice cream parlor where you can snack on hot popcorn while you wait impatiently for your sundae/banana split/shake, etc. They make their own ice cream and toppings at Jaxson's and serve all their sundaes with a sidecar of the topping of your choice. You can also order The Kitchen Sink here. The specialty sundaes are huge, the banana split awesome, lots of choices of ice cream flavors, all great including delicious black raspberry, yum. Jaxson's also serves great food...foot long hot dogs, tuna fish sandwiches, yummy fries, it's all good at Jaxson's. While you're there, load up on some hard to find candy like Bit O Honey, candy dots on paper, wax lips and fangs. This is a great place. Also located on the side street near Jaxson's is Grandpa's Bakery, great breakfast place.
Also located on Dania Beach Blvd. is Dania Jai-Alai if you enjoy that. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is a 10 minute ride from Hollywood Beach and they have a new outdoor walking mall with lots of restaurants and entertainment.
