Default Freeport and Nassau recommendations

We are sailing Feb 7 on the Conquest. Any good recommendations for things to do in Freeport and Nassau? Good shopping or restaurants with good local flavor? Thanks!

I guess in Nassau you have to do the straw market but it was a huge dissappointment for me and some sellers can be pushy.

The beach, cabbage beach (free), was our favorite part of the day in Nassau.

I too enjoy Nassau..the prettiest store in the Caribbean is on Front St., called John Bull..great perfume leather goods and jewelry. There is also a pretty boutique called, Coles of Nassau....they also sell faux designer bags somewhere, although I never found out where... Atlantis a short cab ride over to Paradise Island, is worth the trip...there has been some crime issues there recently so just be aware, and put the vacation mode on cruise control....

Freeport was not my fave although it's been years since I was there...my gf loves to snorkel there though..have a ball!

Where does she snorkel? We will be stopping in Nassau and Freeport in February.

I did the Conquest eastern in September and October. You can read my reviews on my blog. You'll love the Conquest, maybe not so much the ports of call. Key West is best of the three. I was also in Nassau last month and I can say it's really not a good port IMHO. You can make your own fun, but Nassau itself doesn't add much. In Freeport I went to Port Lucaya, they have shops, casino, and beach.

I agree, of the two Lucaya was my favourite part. Very much enjoyed the beach there and the cab ride was very reasonably priced from the Port. Didn't do much else in Freeport, a bit more shopping and sights in Nassau. But did I hear Key West? One of my favourite ports, surprisingly there is quite a bit to do, in my opinion. Great food, friendly people, and great kayaking spot!

I have never cruised to the Bahamas, but I have visited Freeport twice. The last time was last June. It seems like nearly everything has closed since we had visited previously in 2004. How much time do you have? If you have a lot of time then I would highly, highly recommend renting a car and heading out to Gold Rock Beach. It is absolutely amazing. They filmed much of Pirates of the Caribbean there. Other than that, I find Port Lucaya boring. It's just shops and a casino like you've already been to on the ship. We did snorkel at Deadman's Reef and that was cool. Enjoy your vacation!

Here are a few photos that I found. It's a beautiful island. It's just that after a week there you get bored. I am sure I would love it for a day though. http://www.bahamasfilm.com/GrandBaha...lucayapark.htm

We too are going back to Freeport - last time we didn't even get off the boat. However - this time - we'd like to check out snorkling while we are there.

Any input from you guys would be great.

My gf mentioned Our Lucaya, and Paradise Cove areas, as having good snorkling, she also mentioned off shore snorkeling was better. Not snorkeling myself, I don't remember specifics, when she mentioned it way back, but I do remember her raves...
