Default La storms

I hope the LA weather improves soon - how much rain can one area take?? I wonder if the Splendor cruise will be affected? If the storms continue until the weekend will the ship be able to sail

One of our Cruisemates, is leaving out of San Diego tomorrow, for Hawaii. She is worried that they will delay the cruise, since tomorrow is supposed to be the worst of the weather.... I hope everyone gets out...

I'm sailing out of San Diego, on Friday, and the concern I have is the airport. The flight delays will have more effect on the cruise than the rain itself.

The ship will be able to leave from just about any port if there is just heavy rain. If there are very large waves and strong winds then they may delay departure.

Take care,
Mike

I heard the flights were ok, but that was before the 2nd storm. I hope everyone gets out as planned. Who would have thought LA would have crazy weather? I'm flying out a day early, but I planned it because I live in Boston, and its the weather here that makes me plan the extra day - I figured LA would be quiet.

Hey Mike,
Have my fingers crossed that your flight will be on time and you make the ship with time to spare...Keep us posted.

We just received a phone call from Carnival that our cruise this Friday out of Long Beach will be delayed because of the weather.

Also we will be going to Ensenada on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Yikes Don, that stinks. Its too bad Carnival wouldnt let the passengers get on the ship and just delay leaving until the wind dies down. Unless the ship will be delayed getting back in to port?

Today the wind died down. We were having 60 mile winds. Makes in fun to walk into work. This morning there wasn't any wind or rain. However, rain expected to start again later this morning. It's only 6:38AM. Rain should be gone by Saturday. Here is the forecast for Long Beach:
Today Heavy rain and wind high of 51 degrees
Friday Heavy rain and wind high of 55 degrees
Saturday Sunny high of 63 degrees (California weather is like that one day pouring down rain; the next day sunny).
Sunday Sunny high of 64
Monday partly cloudy high of 65
Tuesday showers high of 65
Wednesday partly cloudy high of 67
Thursday Sunny high of 71

Thanks for the weather info Katlady. I was going to drive to the Temecula wine region on Saturday (since I'm not cruising til Sunday), do you know if that area was damaged by the storm? I should probably just call the winery I wanted to visit....?

The ship that is at sea is getting in late because of the storms offshore.
I don't mind.
Now, are they going to give me some free cruises?

I'm not sure, some road could be flooded. I would suggest you call the winery they will have better information then I do. In the Santa Rosa area one road floods everytime it rains. We just go a different way and avoid that road.

Just got another phone call. The ship will be delayed another two hours. Pretty soon, this cruise will be a two day cruise instead of a three dayer.

Do you think Carnival will toss in any freebies to compensate for the delay? Or maybe a coupon discount if you book another cruise with Carnival?

No I don't think so. The only hard part for me is sitting here and waiting. When I'm all packed and stuff, I want to go. I think the seas are pretty rough anyway.

Gosh Don,
Sure hope you ship sails soon. I heard from my sister in Az, she said the wind and rain has been awful, nothing to fool around with.

Let us know when you are onboard and sailing, OK Don.

That is a bummer for Don. He is on a short cruise to start with. The weather in Northern California was much better today. My friend in LA told me some of the areas of Long Beach flooded.

The ship didn't leave until after Midnight. The water was pretty good. The cruise before us was really bad according to the crew. Most of the crewmembers got sick. One veteran crew member of 10 years said it was the second worst one that he had been on.
Overall, they did the best they could.

It was just OK. It was messed up in the begging because of the very late start. The wife had her asthma ace up pretty bad on the last night and we had to visit the ships Doctor. She is feeling better right now. Ship Happens.

I just found out that over half the people in our group of over 50 also got very sick with vomiting and diarrhea. The vomiting is what activated my wifes asthma according to our personal doctor.

BTW, the seas were calm.

Gee Don,
NOT a fun cruise. I've been fortunate, and never had that problem even with rough seas.
