I hate to say it, but I personally think the older carnival ships are about the ugliest in the industry.
That doesn't mean you won't have a fun cruise - the decor is made to be "fun" but not beautiful. It is actually pretty garish and gaudy - similar to a Carnival. Las Vegas of the 1980s is a good description.
The dining rooms are nice, the staterooms are pretty spartan. The public rooms have awful color combinations.
I am the editor, but I also speculate, ask questions and play devil's advocate. I reserve the right to change my mind.
I think the Fantasy was a hoot, and for a nice short getaway like 5-7 days, I would certainly sail her again. I think we all know she's an older ship, but she still has a lot of life left in her. The best time was on the newly added water feature in the back of the ship where my 6 year old daughter spent many an afternoon conducting the "CruiseMates Waterslide lessons" Luckily they were free of charge but she had a blast bossing around TravelMike and Don (ReadytoGo) and telling them proper way to go down the waterslide in order to reach maximum velocity. Luckily they were great students and had it mastered by the end of our 9 day trip together.
I enjoyed that trip a lot and I'd sail the Fantasy again anytime.
We cruised on the Fantasy for Christmas '09. While it is an older ship, it is still nice and well maintained. We love the waterslides and open deck space around them. We like the Fantasy class ships and can't wait for the Fantasy to sail from Charleston!
