Default San Juan

We are going on the Victory in May out of San Juan. This is the first time we have gone there. What advise does everyone have regarding when to get there and where to stay before the cruise. Thanks in advance.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn express. Its a nice clean little hotel within walking distance of a beach and places to eat. Fly in the day before. Its a long flight. Have a fantastic cruise.

Thanks for the info. How far is the Holiday In from the port? Is it a cab ride?

Another choice is Sheraton Old San Juan. It is right across from the cruise ship dock.
San Juan airport is a real zoo so on departure day allow plenty of extra time.

Yes there is a casino. Most people would be able to walk however if anyone is unable it would be a very short and cheap cab ride.

I didn't find the airport to be a zoo at all. I was actually in and out of the San Juan Airport a whole lot faster than I'm in and out of Philadelphia International..

I'll be in San Juan the night before our cruise and the day after. I'm renting a car so I'll have a little wiggle room with where I decide to stay... I don't need anyplace extravagant since most likely we'll tour the island on our own, just some place to lay my head..

Default Is this ok?

We won't be able to fly in the day before the cruise like we want to. We have a flight that will arrive in San Juan at 11:30a. From what everyone is saying, the earliest you can get on the ship is noon. Since the port is close to the airport sounds like we will be there at the port at noon-ish anyways. We have a balcony booked so that we would be allowed on first right?

Here is a picture that was taken from our balcony at the Sheraton

You can kind of get an idea how far away the Sheraton is from where the Victory is docked.

Thanks for sending a picture from the balcony for us. That helps out so much. Much appreciated.... Most of us could walk that easy. But we have a couple guys with bad legs and will take a taxi. I cant tell u how helpful that info is.

Balcony cruisers board same as everyone else. If you're a Carnival Platinum Card cruiser you get to board in a different line unless things have changed. When I left from Puerto Rico last September I can't remember it taking more than 20 minutes to get through the line and on the ship..

If you can try to stay an extra day or two. The island is beautiful and very easy to get around on. We stayed 3 days and wish we had stayed 7. I took my gps with me and we rented a car to tour the island. It was great.

I was thinking of taking my GPS. What kind do you have? I have a Garmen Nuvi, it keeps telling me to update my maps so maybe I'll do that prior to leaving to Puerto Rico since I'm renting a car in Mayaguez and driving to San Juan.

I am leaving on the Victory out of San Juan in April. We are booked at the Intercontinental Resort and Casino. I will let you know how it was when I get back!

I was just in Old San Juan at the beginning of Feb, friends of mine moved there. I would recommend to stay right in Old San Juan it is really pretty. And while you are there if you go to La Plaza de Armas there is a pizzeria called Antonella's. They are from New York and make the BEST pizza I have ever had (I may be a bit biased since those are my friends lol) but it is really nice there I would make sure you give yourself a few days to spend there before or after your cruise. Also there is a place called La Passe de Princessa it is like a little walk way and at the end there is a beautiful water fountain and on the weekends it fills with street vendors and it is a lot of fun! I love it there and can't wait to go back! Hope you have fun!!! :-D

Also Old San Juan is a lot smaller to walk than expected and the port is very central and close to almost everything :-)
