Carnival Destiny-5 Night Eastern Caribbean - May 17-22, 2010

Hi!
I have few general questions regarding this cruise.
This is our first time (my husband, 10 year old daughter and myself) going on a cruise. I am still trying to understand the whole room situation. How terrible are the rooms without any view, does it make a huge difference. What areas are best to get room (pictures show so many decks and rooms.... i get lost). Does it matter if I choose a specific room, or pay less and Carnival chooses a room for us?
Also in terms of off-board attractions. What are the best ideas to do in each location, without spending ton of money. Are the must things to see and do?
