Default First Cruise in May!

Hi all!

Thought I'd take a quick sec to say 'hello'!
I've been scouring the forum for helpful information in preparation for our upcoming cruise, and I gotta say --- there is a LOT of information!

I leave Miami on 5/17 aboard Carnival Destiny, for a day at sea, followed by Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau.

Since this is our first cruise, we decided to splurge a bit, but really feel like we got a great deal.

We're on the Empress deck, in a "Penthouse" suite (aka "Grand"), and VERY excited!

So here's where I'm really looking for help --- opinions, suggestions, "things to be aware of", what to expect, what to partake in, etc.

I've ready a LOT of reviews, and as with any cruise, hotel, airline, etc., etc., there are both good and bad.

Anyone stayed in one of the "Penthouse" suites aboard Destiny? Or for that matter, any room on Destiny? Yeah, I know --- probably a dumb question, but............

Anyway, thanks for the input!

A few of things to be aware of...if by chance you are not thrilled with your tablemates...tell the maitre'd and change.

book excursions off the ship if you can, you save money, and negotiate in many cases...

bring a power strip..so mamy things to plug in, and charge..also bring your own hair dryer..sometimes they don't work, or not strong enough...

I haven't been on Destiny but did stay in a penthouse suite on the Conquest. I would think all their penthouses are about the same. The room was awesome and you won't be sorry if you get a chance to see any of the other rooms. You will have a huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub, double sinks and a dressing/make-up area with seating. Have fun on your first cruise. We don't spend a lot of time in the room when we cruise but it is worth the extra price in our opinion.

You are going to very cruiser friendly ports. Safe and fun...
Just remember to keep your watch on SHIP time...ignore port times. The ship sails on ship time....it does not care what time it is in the port.

If you like speciality coffees, like expressos and cappicinos...they cost extra on the Promenade at the coffee bar.... BUT you can get them for free in the Main Dining Room at any meal.

Steam and Sauna rooms (separate for men and women) are always free...as is the GYM, changing rooms and gym showers. If you want a locker, those are also free...but they will hold your Sail and Sign card until they get the key back.

You will have a little "newsletter" waiting on your bed in the cabin called the Fun Times. It will tell you when and where everything is going on.

Have a great cruise...

I always find a use for a traveling flashlight, comes in handy.

You may also want to read through the section here at Cruisemates on first time cruising:

Have a great time.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Great wealth of information/resources, and I really appreciate it!

I must admit, I'm a bit nervous (paranoid?) about some things --- tipping, excursions, dining, etc., so this is a great help! Thanks for sharing!

I love to go on a cruise so me and my husband have done five cruises uptill now. We had got many enjoyments and the most memorable memories of life from that cruise. There are lots of activities on ship so that you can play it and enjoy the stay on ship. The food on ship is just delicious and very tasty so I hope that you will also enjoy your cruise vacation.
