I'd suggest trying Cruisecompete.com. That way you'll find out what the cruise should go for, and you can make an informed decision on who you can/ should book with.

Call a specialized cruise agent, and tell them your specifics, they will match you to the best cruise for you...or may be able to fit you into an existing group, to get you a discount...or onboard credit...don't forget to by cruise insurance too..you never know...go to insuremytrip.com for side by side comparisons..trip interruption, and medical evacuation, is invaluable to have when you need it..good luck!

My last choice would be to book online.

My first choice is to book on line. I have done it 8 times and never a single problem. I control what I want to book, have access to the account 24 hours and dont have to wait for a TA to call me back if not in. Granted there are downsides if something happens and if it does its you against the cruise line but its my preference and I like it. Booking on line is fast and easy and the pricing is generally equivalent.

In future I suggest you not book the hotel before you book the cruise. Someone may have a better deal for you.

IMO, booking with a "brick & mortar" TA is the best. They may have extra's or a better price that their agency offers. Even if they don't, you'll have someone to run interference in case of a problem.

From what I've read here most Carnival PVP's are just looking at what you're looking at on line. No advantage there. (Yes, I know that some have found a GREAT PVP, but that doesn't seem to be the norm.)

I've also heard that some on line agent's will book you and then "forget" you if you have a problem.

JMO,

First of all you picked a good way to vacation!!! You have your choice of a cruise specialist travel agency or a PVP through Carnival.

Cruise Specialist TA--good reource for the first time cruiser and there when you need them pre-cruise. Early Saver fares may not be taken too well especially if the fare went down as the agency loses money on commission when it goes down.

PVP--you can call and get several quotes for the cruise and category you are looking at and if you find one agent is very helpful and is offering the same rate quoted by another, book away! They will honor the early saver rate. They will not be there to answer some of the questions you may have to ask. You do have US at Cruisemates to help, so if you book with the PVP you can ask your questions here and you'll get several replies!

Good luck on deciding who to book with, but remember, ALWAYS GET TRAVEL INSURANCE!!!!!! You can buy it seperately or get Carnival's insurance, but do get it because you never know when something will go wrong...

I pick where and when I want to go then call a travel agent to book it
for me. seems they can get just a little better price.
Like my hotel I booked for my cruise I called booked it on line thought
I got a great deal then called my travel agent and they got if for me
for 30.00 cheaper so liked their deal better.
that way if you have problems you know where they are to make a complaint also..

"SKY"
Didn't two TA's who were big on Cruisecompete recently go bust? I would be very careful using them.

Carnival is one of the few lines that still allow travel agents to discount from their commissions and pass that savings on to the customer.

SO... if you shop around you can always save money on the price a Carnival PVP can offer you. Just have to find the right travel agent, who will be willing.

Although I have booked both through the cruise line and independent travel agents, I seem to have had the same results from both. If the fare goes down (and you must monitor this personally), you can usually get an onboard credit from either or some other perks.

You will have to do your homework and then monitor fares, etc. No one will give you a break voluntarily.
