Default Just back from Miracle (a bit long)

Just got back from an 8 day cruise on Carnival Miracle out of Fort Lauderdale. Ports of call were St. Maarten, St. Lucia and St. Kitts. We booked the cruise over a year ago and for fun we called in the Holy Cruise since each port had Saint in its name. It wasn't until 2 months ago that we realized the cruise was during Easter week and included Easter Sunday. So now it became a real Holy Cruise. We were concerned that shops in the ports might be closed but only in St. Kitts were they closed since it was Good Friday. However the usual ones at the cruise terminal were open. The ship's cruise director Josh had made arrangements with a friend of his who was a minister and he conducted an interdominational service on Easter Sunday. I was surprised at the turn out as on other cruises Sunday services were not well attended. Anyway it was a great cruise.

We had been to St. Maarten before but this time we had friends with us who had never been there. We did the island bus tour again and they enjoyed it. In St. Lucia we did the mineral baths. I must say I was a bit disappointed. The baths consisted of 3 concrete pools where the mineral water flowed in them. One was hot and the other two were cool. And it was long walk down and back to the pools. I would not recommend this tour as I don't think it was worth it. We did see a lot of the Island and our tour guide was very good. If we ever go back we will try the mud baths as they seemed to be a bit more what we expected. In St. Kits we did the Island Train ride. We had been in St. Kitts before but I had a bit of food poisoning that the ship's medical staff said was the noro virus and quaranteed me for 3 days. I know they had to be careful and were only doing their jobs but the symptoms only lasted for a day and were not that of the virus. Anyway although my wife had already taken the train ride she went along again for my sake. This ride, although a bit expensive, really gives you a feel for the island and what the sugar cane industry was and now is not to the economy.

The cruise itself was wonderful. This was the 3rd time on the Carnival Miracle for us and it was the 1st as Platinum cruisers for us. Embarkation was breeze. Debarkation was bit longer then we thought it should be but I think the problem was the terminal/custom folks and not Carnival's. I can't say enough about the crew. This by far the friendliest and happiest group of folks we have encountered on cruises. The food was good, some nights exceptional (like surf and turf) and other nights just good food. The casino was very stingy and I wasn't the only one complaining. Since I live in Florida I go to the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa a lot. Thier payouts have spoiled me! But It was a good time for all. We enjoyed the shows but have found that the shows tend to be not as attention grabbing as they have been in the past. And now we are back at home with the next cruise on the Carnival Dream in Oct.

As an aside when we were in St. Maarten there with 7 yes 7 cruise ships in port. Both the Carnival Dream and the RCL Oasis of the Seas were tied op side by side. Wow that's a lot of ship.

If you have any specific questions I am more than happy to answers them.

Smooth sails and following seas to all.

Hey Chief,,glad you had a GREAT cruise. I told Josh to take good care of you and your group. We too, had a wonderful cruise aboard "Miracle", and I absolutely concur that the crew aboard "Miracle" is the friendliest, most accommodating of any ship I've ever sailed. In fact, we enjoyed it so much, that I swapped my "Dream" cruise in November, for another "Miracle" 8 day. Come on along,,,we'll have a super good time!

Almost forgot. We ate at Nick and Nora's one nigt. It was the best it has ever been. The couple with us have never cruised Carnival before but have several cruises with Princess and Royal Caribbean. They were impressed to say the least. I would highly recommend it for 1 dinner at least.

Hi Chief,

By chance did you experience the service in the Lobby Bar?

Does the Fun Times/Capers show a 730am open time or 8-830am ?

Phil and Liz: Now I wish I had brought back a copy of the FunTimes. I don't remember what the time was. I do know that on the mornings (yes I am an early riser) that I was wandering about there was activity behind the bar around 7:30 or so. But as to actual serving I can't say. Sorry 'bout that.
Maybe Skymaster can remember. He was on the cruise just before ours. How about it Sky? :-)

Well, I'm looking at a "sea day" Fun Times, and believe it or not, they don't specify the "Lobby Bar". What it does say is: Morning Drink Special, Decks 2 & 9, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. I looked at several "Fun Times" and they all list the morning drinks that way. No notation specifically of the Lobby Bar!

Mostly glad to read the cruise was good and no real complaints. Comforting as we are going on Miracle for an 8-day in November with friends. Our 3rd cruise, their FIRST! So hoping they will be blown away.

I have considered Nick & Nora's, what did you have to eat? How was the price?

Thanx,
Krunch

Krunch,
I had lamb and my wife had fish but we can't remember exactly what it was. There was a salad. I had escargot and my wife had soup. There also were side vegetables. We both had a glass of wine and I had a Sambuca with my espresso. Deserts were assorted cheeses for me and something chocolate for my wife. With the wine and after dinner drink the total bill was around $90 for the 2 of us. If you skip the alcohol it will be less. We also tipped the waitress who we had. She was really a sweetheart. We were told that there is no gratuity in the supper club so we tipped directly. I would recommend the club to anyone. Hope this is what you were looking for.

Thanx Master Chief!

If the atmosphere was right, the service excellent, then that $90 you say sounds good to me. The fact that our Canadian dollar is at par right now in the US helps too as we save some spending money for our cruise and buy the US dollars now.

Ideally, we are steak people. I assume they have steak?

But the few drinks with supper, and desert if you have room, sounds like an experience I would like to try out on the ship.

Oh yes, they have steaks, great big ones too. Also lobstertail, pork, fish, etc. As soon as you embark in the atrium lobby, there will be a couple of folks with a cart that has the cuts of meat, lobstertail, etc. for you to see. You might want to make your reservations early as they do tend to fill up. Aso, I wore a tux (as I don't get to do that much now that I am retired) but there were folks in dressy casual without jackets. You will feel comfortable in whatever you wear.

Thanx again! Steak, will definately check it out upon boarding. Glad you mentioned the attire as well. See I am a person who hates to dress up in a tux. I never go to any of the formal nights, that's not my defination of a vacation. I need to be comfortable. But I wear pants and golf shirts everyday so that's what I would LIKE to wear if we try out a steak at Nick & Nora's

Thanx!

You should be OK. By the way, if you do go, please let us know what your experience was. It is always nice to have several opinions on a subject as we are all see things from different viewpoints. And of course have a great cruise :-)

It's about 7 months before we go, so I might forget, but I will try to remember to let you know.
