I pretty much just stick to rum and coke (and bring my own of both). But.....it's a tradition and I do have one mudslide every evening.

By the way.....what is a Mojito? The first time I had ever heard of this drink was on the show "Family Guy" of all places!

Mojito is a drink started in Cuba and made famous by Ernest Hemingway. Here is a recipe below and a link to the website I got it from. enjoy.


Cuban Mojito Recipe | The Best Cuba Cocktail Drink
Cuban Mojito recipe

the original authentic recipe from Havana Cuba

1 teaspoon powdered sugar
Juice from 1 lime (2 ounces)
4 mint leaves
1 sprig of mint
Havana Club white Rum (2 ounces)
2 ounces club soda

Place the mint leaves into a long mojito glass (often called a "collins" glass) and squeeze the juice from a cut lime over it. You'll want about two ounces of lime juice, so it may not require all of the juice from a single lime. Add the powdered sugar, then gently smash the mint into the lime juice and sugar with a muddler (a long wooden device pictured below, though you can also use the back of a fork or spoon if one isn't available). Add ice (preferably crushed) then add the rum and stir, and top off with the club soda (you can also stir the club soda in as per your taste). Garnish with a mint sprig.

I was looking forward to a Mojito last week but the bartender made it waaaay too sweet. Kinda turned me off of Mojitos for a while. New favorite: Yellowbird.

If you're making this at home be sure to use something metal and NOT a glass to "muddle" the mint. One of our favorite bartender's was fixing a Mojito in a glass and his hand was sliced open (yikes!) when the glass broke .

We have a wooden muddler like in the picture. Plus with fresh mint you don't have to muddle hard for favor. Why does every thing I write sound dirty to me. "you don't have to muddle hard for favor" just sounds dirty. Oh by the way check out my short clock.;-)
