Question New to cruising.

My mom, her roommate, my boyfriend, and I are planning a cruise for next year. We are thinking about possibly taking Carnival Freedom for an 8 night Eastern Caribbean Cruise.
I have only been on one cruise and it was four years ago, my mom and her roomate have never been on a cruise before.
I'm so exited!

So, My questions are:
1)Is it better to get a room on the Riviera Deck than on the decks closer to the bars and casinos? Is the Riviera Deck close to the engine and is it disturbing while you sleep?
2)Approximately how much money does the average person spend AFTER booking the cruise? We would like to do some excursions, some drinking, maybe some gambleing, go to the spa once, buy souvenirs, etc...
3)What are some of the best activities (in your opinion) to do on the fun day at seas?
4)Is it difficult to go off on your own and still have a good time at the ports instead of spending money on the excursions?
5)What is your favorite excursion and why?
6)How much does it typically cost to get a massage at the spa?

I would really appriciate any tips or any other information on cruises. Thank you!

First off Welcome, as for your questions I take them one at a time.
1) The riviera deck in the lowest level on the ship with only two real benefits. One is in case of ruff seas it's the level that doesn't seem to move. The other is that on port days you can get on and off faster if you are near the exit to the ships gangway. As for engine noise I have never found that to be a problem.
2) the money you spend is all on you, I mean I have spent over $500 + Dollars on the ship or as little as $200 just remember the 10 dollar per person charge for gratuities.
3) Me days at sea are spent wondering my ship and relaxing out getting some sun, I also like to see if their is any good things to do in my carnival capers (big money bingo). Sometime. I am 26 and I don't mind a good game of bingo.
4) it is very easy to go off and do your own thing, I like to heir a taxi driver for the day or to do a sight seeing tour. Remember to haggle a bit I never go with the first price they quote. Don't be afraid to walk away and go to someone else, I've also will use one driver's bid to get and even better price from some one else. Taxi's are never hard to find. Just don't ever pay them up front.
5) Evey place is different but for me I love diving it's the greatest thing ever!!!
6) Never got a Massage but to give you an example a mannie pedi will run you about 120 +

GooD Luck

So, My questions are:
1)Is it better to get a room on the Riviera Deck than on the decks closer to the bars and casinos? Is the Riviera Deck close to the engine and is it disturbing while you sleep? The best deck is one with cabins below you and above you.

2)Approximately how much money does the average person spend AFTER booking the cruise? We would like to do some excursions, some drinking, maybe some gambleing, go to the spa once, buy souvenirs, etc...
How much is a big question. I use the guidline of budgeting $100/day for drinks, excursions, gambling and perhaps a spa trip. The average spa visit is about $100.

3)What are some of the best activities (in your opinion) to do on the fun day at seas?
Laying by the pool. Going to the casino. Playing trivia. Watching the pool games and entertainment.

4)Is it difficult to go off on your own and still have a good time at the ports instead of spending money on the excursions?
Research your ports and then look for recommendations of private tours. There will also be vendors at the pier that can sell you a tour. Just make sure you agree to the price and what you will do BEFORE you get in the cab or van.

5)What is your favorite excursion and why?
My favorite excursions are usually ones that involve snorkeling or sightseeing a place I've never been.

6)How much does it typically cost to get a massage at the spa? Figure $100

I would really appriciate any tips or any other information on cruises.
Do a "Search" on Liberty, Eastern Caribbean and/or look through some of the posts and you will find lots of tips. The best tip I can give you is to leave time for relaxation.

Take care,
Mike

To add a bit,
1, Does your Mother like access to Food , Sun Deck et cetra as rather then waiting for Elevators, the stairs are quick. Only issue is noise at times for cabins below this deck.
If your party has problems with long walks then see for a cabin close to stairs and elevators

2. Cruise line will love you especially if you use the casino.
As Mike says, price points are varied.
One trip I bought a camera , Cologne , dress for my OH ( left one at home) , wine package and tours , my bill was about $1,400.00 (10 day cruise) but on another trip had it down to about $800.00 (7 day cruise).
If you do not drink, do not buy soda package, do not drink specilty coffee and stay away from shops and tours, you can expect about $75 per paseenger for seven day trip. Gratituity only.

3. Pool, reading, watching people, pool games, entertainment, exploring the ship, few drinks, sun bathing, watching people

6. Watch out for product hard sell, discounts normally on port days
7. Keep on asking questions as we all learn from each other.
Do not forget to post a reveiw for us.
Yup, we love to reply to posts...

Riviera Deck, mid ship is almost always very quiet, and will give you a "good ride" in case of rough seas. (Yes, there are cabins below Riviera Deck,,,they're for the crew etc.)
Looks like most of your other questions have been answered. I'd suggest doing a search on "Freedom" rather than "Liberty". That way, you can find folks who have done the exact cruise you're going to be on, and find suggestions for activities both aboard ship, and in the ports.
Have a GREAT cruise.
