Article: Park West 'art auction' ripoff?
 

Did people actually think this stuff was real then? I always just thought it was a load of junk being sold to bored gullible people with nothing to do on sea days. I mean if it was any good it wouldn't be for sale on a ship would it? OK you MAY like it but as for being genuine that is something else.

Afraid USA Today is way late to this story. Our own Paul Motter has been writing in detail about this for months.

John, for the groupies I used to see, who bookd cruises just to buy art, that they thought was an investment,& possible resale, shame on them and shame on PWG.

For the people like me, who bought a piece of art, that was not a huge investment. and were not bored cruisers, looking for some bad champagne..good for us.I would have bought it on land too!

If I were going to buy a Rembrant, or an Erte, I would not buy it at sea, just like, if I were going to invest in a major diamond, I would buy it at home as well....

Same old thing with ''art'' or ''antiques'' type of thing, if you like it & buy it because you like it that is a lot different to buying something you think is worth something, especially on a ship "auction" I have only very rarely seen anything sell, maybe the Brits are just mean!! We did once see a picture we liked & would have paid a couple of hundred Pounds...the starting price was about £5,000....no chance, I took a photo of it!!

How true, I would never buy anything major while cruising, all the jewely is bought at home and same with any art...I just always knew those paintings were not worth what they said they were...

We've bought several pieces of art (some original, some lithographs, some hand embelished prints) on different cruises because we loved them, not because we ever expect them to be worth a million $$$ :D.

They were all low priced and by artist's that you've probably never heard of :), but we enjoy them.

I'd never pay what those people in the article paid, for ANY art!

We've also never heard anyone claim that the artwork will increase in value. In fact, they specifically say that it probably won't. It's correct that the Art Auction is not a "true" auction, but that's explained, too.
