Default Flight after cruise question...

I'm trying to book airfare for our cruise in Oct. and I have a question. It says the boat arrives back in Tampa at 8am, how long does it take to get off the ship? If I book a flight that leaves Tampa at 12:20pm, does that give me enough time to get off the boat and to the airport??

Thanks for your help!

You might also look into whether the port/ship offers the Luggage express service where they take your bags the last night and you dont see them again till you are at your home airport.

When a cruise returns, dock time indicates when the ship actually arrives. At that time immigration officials board and review ship supplied documents for all passengers. No one is allowed to disembark until ALL passengers are cleared. While US citizens are not personally interviewed (if they embarked at the very start of the cruise), non-US citizens are personally interviewed. If anyone requiring an interview, doesn't show up or has irregularities in their documents, everybody waits.

The last time that we returned from the Exotic Mexican Rivieran Cruise in San Diego, we missed our flight. The ship docked in San Diego about 07:00. Then the ship's staff began the clearing customs process. Everyone knew the routine. We began to sit & wait for the ship to clear customs and to start debarking. The ship's public address system keep calling the same people, to report to a specific area. Soon 8:00 rolled around, then 9, 10 and 11:00. They keep on calling those same 9 or 10 people to report to that area. Then finally, they started calling those same people by their names and saying "your holding up the whole ship". By this time, 11:30, we were getting pissed! We had booked a 12:30 return flight home. Everyone abord the ship was pissed, and about 98% of the passangers had already missed their return flights.
Then about 12:45 or so, we finally exited the ship only to find that the line for a cab was about a block long. We finally got to the San Diego airport at about 1:15. Southwest Air Line was very good to all of us that missed our flights, they made sure that we all obtained the quickest available return flights. We noticed that when we left the ship, that the U.S. Customs Officers were escorting a few individuals away in handcuffs.
This was a very unusual occurrence. We usually debark a ship in less that an hour or so.
