I have just booked my first cruise and am very excited, my husband has served 24 years in the US Air Force and is retiring this July, so his gift to his family is a cruise, he is a non-smoker and I am a smoker, so we saved hard so we could have a suite with a balcony so I have somewhere to smoke, we did this so we had the best of both, he has his smoke free room and I get to enjoy smoking on the balcony, now I am worried I will be next to someone who is going to complain and make things uncomfortable for me. I do sympathize with non-smokers, my hope is by me posting this it will let people see a different side, from a smoker. I want everyone to enjoy their Cruise.
We are also travelling with 2 teenage children who have an inside room opposite us, so they are not around my smoke.
So, you are a smoker and think it's ok for everyone else, but you are traveling with 2 teenage children who have an inside cabin opposite you so they are not around your smoke.
Hmm.
Aren't you now saying that, as you cheer on the smokers, that you just don't want your children to have to breathe it. Why is it good for us, the non-smokers, but not ok for your kids?

I was kind of thinking along those same lines. When I booked my balcony cabin on the Magic come this November, I hadn't even thought of the possibility of being smoked out from other balcony cabins surrounding me. The poster probably wasn't thinking about her smoke bothering surrounding balcony cabins until reading this thread either.
Bottom line is there just is no getting away from someone else's smoke completely. I'm just praying that I'm not surrounded by smokers on my upcoming Magic cruise. I will be highly irritated to have paid that extra $$ for a balcony cabin if I can't even enjoy it.
Only time will tell...

I would also be very irritated if I had people next to me slam their balcony door because I was smoking on my balcony when I was told by the cruise line that I could as I also paid extra for it.

Too bad. Deal with it. Same as us nonsmokers have to deal with the stench and inhaling your secondary smoke.

There's more STENCH in this world than smoke. Don't get me started again
You wanna keep this thread going.... very well then.... there may be "more STENCH" in this world, but not worse stench than than the stench of cigarette smoke. My opinion of course, which I'm entitled to RB...

Are you non smoking do gooders happy? I think some aren't, so they feel better ragging about this subject, makes them feel better.
Most non smokers have an understanding of us and don't mind getting a whiff or two, after all they are aware their lives at home don't have smoke. We are generally good people and don't appreciate the way you treat us.
We don't lock you in a space with us with no ventillation, and you can avoid a smoking area very easily. And don't bring up the casino senario, smoking is there so we smokers will sit there and give away our money, it's proven non smokers don't support the casino financially.
Well, I've never heard of people slamming doors over this issue, but it is one of those things that is annoying. When I breathe, I want to breathe fresh air, period.
It's hard for smokers to get this. They get mad and start talking about their rights. Ok. But, nobody gave them the right to compromise my health. I like the restrictions getting tighter and tighter. It means someone cares about the air we breathe.
Enough. I'm done with this thread. It's always a no-win and will be till the end of time.
Might I ask how your family and most importantly your son is planning to get to the cruise ship?
Are you flying? Because every year the burning of jet fuel contributes millions of tons of air pollution over our cities.
Are you driving instead? Better not crack the window because of exhaust fumes cased by the burning of fossil fuels.
If your son has asthma as bad as you say he does then both of those things should affect him just as badly as cigarette smoke does....unless of course hes taken his cue from mom and just uses this as an excuse to whine and draw attention to himself.
See? It's always arguments about perfume or vapors from the jet fuel that just make me want to throw down the gaunlet.
Not the same, bud. Rationalize it all you want but you smokers are just throwing all these arguments out there and not making sense.
Hope you stay healthy. Smoking really does a number.
Take care.
