Has anyone taken this 6 night cruise. It goes to freeport bahamas, nassau, & key west. My question is are the beaches right when you get off the ship or you have to pay for transportation to take you to a beach, the same for key west?
It's been years since I was in Freeport, but a cab ride is needed to get to the beaches...I think maybe the best way to enjoy the beaches here, is to get a day pass at the resorts..one good one to try is, Our Lucayan Beach & Golf Resort... mu girlfriend snorkels, and she said it's amazing here.
Believe it or not, Key West is not well known for beaching it..I think the 2 most popular beaches are:South Beach and Smathers Beach. As a port day, most cruisers walk the town, pub crawl, rent the electric cars, or take the Conch Train, to view the island...fun place with lots to see and the people watching here is great! Don't miss, the conch fritters, and key lime pie, which you can also get frozen on a stick! Have fun!

The closest beach in Key West to where the cruise ships dock is Fort Zachary Taylor State Park, a lot of people walk there or if you're docked at Mallory Square, it's a short taxi ride. There is a beautiful beach (you can snorkel directly from the beach), picnic tables, chair rentals, snack bar, bike path, outdoor showers, restrooms, etc. You can also tour the amazing Fort, a National Historic Landmark. Lots of information is available online at: fortzacharytaylor.com It is close, convenient, historical, and absolutely beautiful.
DH and I went KW, Freeport and Nassau last October...in KW we walked A Lot! and rented scooters (this is not recommended for inexperienced)...Freeport the ship docks in an industrial area...take a cab to the beaches...they will be lined up and take groups to the beaches for a reasonable price...In Nassau we walked about 5 blocks and caught a bus...like 50 cents apiece I think...we rode with the locals over to the nicest beaches..over near the Wyndham Resort (I am thinking it was Cable Beach, but am not sure)..it was great I wanna go again!!
