Default My first cruise - Questions

I just booked our first Bahamas cruise on Carnival out of Charleston. I have so many questions.

1. How do you deal with staying in touch with home during the cruise? I hear that roaming rates are awful. We have Verizon. I see that there is an 800 number that my kids can call in case of emergency.

2. Do you use cash at the ports of call or use your charge card? I'm concerned that extra fees will be tacked onto our charge card if we use it in the Bahamas. (Freeport and Nassau)

3. The room we booked is on the bottom deck in the very back (Interior). Will that be a noisy deck with the engines under it?

4. We're only taking one rolling suitcase each. Can we just bypass the check in and take them to our rooms ourselves?

Thanks for your help.

1. You can sign up for Internet but it's expensive as is your cell.
2. You can use U.S. $ everywhere in the Bahamas and you can also use credit cards but the card co. attach-es at least 2% on top for out of Country charges.
3. Never been on the bottom deck ... some say it's noisy???
4. We've been on 9 cruises and no you cannot take it to your cabin (at least as far as my experience has been.
Hope this helps,
Som

1. Anyone can call your cabin: They will need to know the name of the ship and your cabin number. They will also have to have a Visa, Amex or Mastercard. The number is:1-877-CCLSHIP (1-877-225-7447) from the U.S

2. Just take a small amount of spending money ashore. i.e. $50 - $100. Use your credit card for any larger purchases.

3. You may have some vibration and noise in that location but many people stay in these cabins every week.

4. You will only be able to take anything onboard that will fit through the scanner. The scanner is basically the same as an airport scanner. I would say to just bring a carry-on bag, with your valuables and medication, and just check the rolling suitcases.

Have a great cruise.
