You have to remember this original post is about 2 years old---if the O.P. hasn't gotten it by now and is still looking for that " secret" spot, I doubt he / she will ever get it or maybe by now is too old to care !!
It's weird how many people are angry at this question. I think it's a good, legitimate question. My girlfriend and I found that the higher decks were so empty outside at night, that we could have sex with very little possibility of someone coming by. Of course, you want some possibility. That's the point. But it was really deserted.
Keep in mind, I'm talking about doing things quickly, standing up. That sort of thing. We weren't taking our time out there.
I am the editor here, but I noticed this thread has been viewed over 100,000 times, so it is pretty popular.
I tend to agree that there are few truly private places on cruise ships largely because of security cameras, but also because they are not designed to have hidden places - they are designed to maximize the view of the ocean with lots of open railings and glass everywhere.
If you really feel compelled to have this thrill you might go to one of the top decks in the middle of the night and possibly find a stack of deck chairs that you can hide behind.
But in all truth - you need to know that will only protect you from passers by. Modern cruise ships do have literally 1000s of security cameras, most of them focussed on the open decks, looking for people getting too close to going over the side. It is mandated by law that ships must have these cameras, and that they record.
So - even if you think you are getting away with it - in reality you are probably just making a porn video for the crew to enjoy the next day.
If that is your thing - I am not here to judge you. I am sure you wouldn't be the first to do this.
On the other hand - if you get a cabin with a balcony you can always do it out there and get the same thrill. I don't think the camera will pick you up unless you happen to stick an arm or leg through the railing.

I thought Carnival was the fun ship??? Love the public risk stuff. Each ship is different, but I have always found somewhere to step out of the lights.
What a funny read!!! The reactions and responses are so comical. I remember the younger years of exploring where these thoughts would cross my mind. I've been on cruises before and can't imagine a comfy or fun place to do this, but to each their own. Do whatever "floats your boat" if your sex life isn't fulfilling your needs.
As the administrator said, there are tons of cameras for legal and safety reasons, so keep that in mind. Weigh out your options, the risk vs. reward and go for it if you really need to! Night time on higher decks will have lesser risk. That would be my my best suggestion.

Well, after two + years of waiting to hear all about it---did they, or did they not?? That is the question now !!
Maybe we can keep it going by speculating--I speculate they / he / she spent all week looking for that " secrete spot " and before they found it, they were cooled off, worn out, it was time to pack and set the bags out, and the cruise was over--any more speculators??
Al, Do not despair, you will find some secret spots. AND...contrary to what the nay sayers are claiming about security and expulsion from the ship....apparently they have never done it.....it is not TRUE. They want you to have fun on your cruise. THe employees and security will not bug you and the one time I was caught, they quietly ducked away.
It all depends on what ship you are on but there are tons of nooks and crannies on the ship.....but you'll probably want to wait until 1-3 in the morning when everyone is in their rooms.
A few places I've "sexplored"....the golf course at 4 am, on top of the chairs they stack up about 10 high every night on deck, and hidden decks intended for staff passage that are on guest floors and completly isolated during the wee hours of the night when the staff is sleeping (you might do your safety drills in these "munster" areas).
Have fun and definitely stay away from the rails if you're drinking. Lol
Heard on our last cruise a couple got overly amorous ashore on Orient Beach in St. Martin. The employees there broke the couple up. This was, mind you, broad daylight.

Well, ok---there are " secret sex " spots on all the ships--you have to go to the pursers desk ( preferably late when no one is around, ) ask them for the " special " glasses you have to wear in order to find the secret sex spots.
The glasses are similar to 3-d glasses and the secret spots are marked with smal X's in a certain color paint that can only be seen after dark by wearing these special glasses.
There now--the secret is out and everyone knows, it's not a secret anymore ---dang it !!!
I agree that the staff won't break you up - just the opposite. They will all be anticipating watching it on the security video the next day and having a good laugh.
It reminds of the comedian Sam Kinneson (may he rest in peace) who had a bit about buying a video camera and taping himself and his wife.
He said he expected to see something that looked like a porn video, but instead it looked like two whales fighting over the same spot on an iceberg.
