Default Carnival Conquest Reviews

Ok...I am one that usually takes ALL reviews with a grain of salt. I know everyone comes from different perspectives and has different expectations (i.e. some realistic and some not). But I have read a few new reviews on other sites related to the Conquest and at least 2 of the newer reviews commented on how poor the food was in the dining room and on the buffets.

2 of them were also commenting on the overall angst of the staff and the condition of the ship.

We are getting ready for our first Carnival cruise on the Conquest in less than 3 weeks and we are excited. I guess I consider myself to be reasonable and this will be my 6th cruise overall (2 w/RCI, 1 w/NCL, 1 w/Princess and 1 w/Disney). I have seen a pretty consistent level of service and food quality and expect nothing different with the Conquest.

Should I possibly lower my expectations a bit or have most of you found that these negative reviews are wayyy off base?

I know a bunch of you have sailed on the Conquest and I know that some of you have sailed recently so I appreciate your ideas, opinions and thoughts.

I would reserve judgement and experience it for yourself. We personally enjoyed the ship.

I know that Snoozeman on here has done Conquest many times so he can offer first hand experience. He posts reviews here on Cruisemates and at his other blog Ray's Cruise Blog

I can tell you that on our last cruise we felt the head waiter we had for our table was subpar. The MD, GSD and John Heald were made aware of the experience and I would think that it has been addressed.

If you do feel there are areas for improvement in the dining room, be sure to bring the issues to the MD when they occur so they can address them promptly.

Not to worry, you'll enjoy the Conquest. She is very consistent in service and food. Crew members love to sail from Galveston so they usually have the most experienced crew in the fleet.

You will have a wider variety of food choices than he ships you have listed. If you get something you don't like at dinner, try something else. As Phil mentioned, I do have ten reviews on my blog. I mention food a lot as I LIKE it. Be sure to try the Deli and the room service BLT's. The Mongolian Grill is excellent!

BTW--Read up on French impressionism art before you board.

I appreciate the response. I have read your blog and appreciated it and I have a feeling the most recent negative reviews we have read are not indicative of how the cruise will go.

I have sailed on the Conquest twice ! Once from New Orleans ( 2003 ) and Galveston (2007 )! I love the ship the staff was excellent ! The ship is beautiful ! We had so much fun !!!! THE 2007 cruise we missed jamica and Grand Cayman because of the fog but the staff was extra attentive and we had a 2 or 4 hr happy hour ( FREE ) ! So there was some grumbling but not much ! the Cruise directors on both trips were hilarious !!! I can't wait for my next cruise ! We also sailed the Triumph ! Loved in Conquest is newer but the staff was A + !!

Hope the OP returns to tell us what they thought of the ship.

We, (husband, son, and daughter in law) just returned from the Conquest. We cruised 12/19-12/26/2010. Our ports were Montego Bay, Caymans, and Cozumel. We had a wonderful time on this ship. This was our 3rd Carnival cruise. Our room steward was J.J. and he was excellent. He kept our room in order, kept our ice bucket filled, and of course we had our towel animals. Room service was quick and our order was filled correctly.

Our dining room was the Renoir and the head server was Jeffrey. He was an exceptional server as were his assistants. Our maitre d' was Mr. V. Each night he made a point of stopping at every table to speak and gaive points on our port stops. Our cruise director was James Dunn and a very cool Katy. I can't remember her last name. The food selections were very good. You had a good choice to select from. The sushi lines were always long. The Mongolian stir fry area always had a long line and it had beef, chicken, shrimp and assorted veggies. I went to Sur Mer once, and the fish and chips were good and hot. Prepared as you ordered. Pauls Deli had good late night sandwiches. I didn't try pizza, but the children onboard seemed to enjoy it.

In the main dining room, portion sizes were good and the selections were good. We had shrimp cocktails, lobster bisque, fresh fruit salads as some of our choices. The caesar salad was also good. We had chicken, sirloin strips, lobster, panko crusted jumbo shrimp (hot and good), pork chops, barbeque ribs, short ribs (tender and very flavorful). These are just some to the dishes. Desserts were assorted, warm chocolate melting cake, bread pudding with a vanilla sauce, a warm fig cake (excellent). With four of us, we were able to taste several dishes.

We had an oceanview room and was very pleased with the size. We had generous storage space. Our son had a balcony room and next time that is what we are going to get. It was great sitting on their balcony watching the sun set and looking out at the water.

There wasn't a lot of Christmas decorations, but that was understandable because you have an international population onboard. Christmas music as played. We enjoyed the show, participated in the live band karoke(sp) shows. There are many clubs available for those who like them. Music is all over the ship. We played games, attended game shows and really had a great, great time.

Any vacation is what you make of it. We left home knowing we were going to have a great time and we did. BTW, the ship was kept clean, the crew was friendly, and as I said earlier, we are ready to go again. I hope this short review helps.

Default Conquest reviews

Thanks for the mini review "Cruise Soon." This will be our 3rd Carnival cruise but 1st on the Conquest and we fully expect we will enjoy it as much as you did.

We will be doing a Back to Back Jan 30 and Feb 6. It's really cool because there will be two totally different itineraries for each cruise.
