On our trip we have a flat rate tip price of $10 per person per day. We are only going on a 5 day cruise, so we are paying $50 per person for tips. If the boat sails at maximum capacity, which is 2642 That equates to $132,100 for tips. I hope more than a few get extra bonus from the tipping at that price. Do the cruise lines split up the tipp charge to all crew members? Or just a few? Plus I saw a 15% gratuity is added to all drinks, who gets this money? If we are tipping every single crew member, each member would get roughly $125 bonus. What are your thoughts. Al
The $10.00 per day goes to Cabin steward, Head Waiter, Asst Waiter and Matre D. The 15% gratuity goes to all the bar staff and others that may not get tips for personal service.

So If i read this correct only 3 types of personell are getting a share of the $132,100? Does the clean up crew get any tip?, How about the luggage crew, or the bilge crew? I will be very upset to learn that the people behind the scenes may not get any of the is large sum of money. Al
Consider it like this the crew that is most involved with serving you get your tips. In a restaurant you tip the waiter and the waiter will tip out the bus boy, and bartender. Your tips will never see a dish washer or cook. But they get paid by the cruise lines so I wouldn't worry too much about where your money goes.

The "tipped" personnel are paid a monthly wage around $50. The gratuities are their salary. Other "non-tipped" personnel are paid a higher monthly wage.
Yes: It is possible for a cabin steward or waiter to make $30,000 per contract but they work 14 hours per day and put up with an awful lot of "stuff" to earn that money.
I cannot say about Carnival but on Holland America part of the automatic tips are distributed to behind the scenes crew.
Take care,
Mike
