Default What to do in Turks & Caicos?

Heather and I are taking her mom on a cruise for her 50th b-day next year. It will be her 1st cruise and her 1st port of call. So I'm looking for any recomendations for things to do in Grand Turk. None of the excursions on Carnivals site really jumped out to me. But looking for something cool to do for her first port experience. Thanks for any help, recomendations or stories.

Randy and Heather

truth is their is not much to do. We went exploring around the island in a cab we were able to see the whole island in about 20 or 30 min's. Other than that their isn't much to do. Also I didn't see private tour operators so it looked to me like it's carnival or nothing.

We took a tour of the island with a local cabbie. We are also into local history and love getting the background info on places we visit. And we are lighthouse lovers. The cabbie (female) did a wonderful job. That being said the tour lasted about 2 hours. We saw a lot and had a lot explained to us about the background and history of the place. But I do agree that other than snorkling or going to the huge Margaritaville pool there is a lot to do. Hope you have a great cruise. I think we paid her $40 or so. It was well worth it to us.

So do I, truth is I loved the cabbie he told us about the problems that the island was facing. The one thing that I he said that I will never forget is when he told us that he will never leave because he hates to fly and is afraid of sinking in a boat so he is going to say untill he dies. It was one of the more enjoyable things I have ever done.

There is alot to do on Grand Turk if you just look! Several dive operators offer snorkel trips, Dive Resort Courses & trips to uninhabited beaches on the East side of the Island. The taxi tour is a great way to get a taste of the Island and it's history.

Grand Turk cruise center has a BIG Margaritaville bar and restaurant. There is a HUGE pool. That is where you can spend some time watching the people try to surf on the Flowrider and take a dip in the pool. The beach is not the best and on one side (Margaritaville side) is ROCK!!!@ The other said I am told is sandy.....

There is a lot to do with water and such, so that is a good tip. Gibbs Cay is a nice place to hang and play with some stingrays!!!!

Off site Grand Turk--ya, a good thing to avoid...2.5 hours with a golf cart and we never found the town and we did manage to find the lighthouse.....I was a little disappointed, but it was fun bombing around on a golf cart *BG*....can see a lot going 10mph....
