This is tragic for Carnival and their passengers and crew. Very glad that no one was injured, although I am sure a gaggle of person injury lawyers are in small boats rowing out to the Carnival Splendor as we speak!
I will be on the Carnival Spirit starting on Friday for a Mexico cruise, guess I dodged a bullet, but I feel sorry for those passengers that lost their cruise, this week and next appearently. But I understand Carnival is offering the affected passengers a nice compensation pasckage.

It's good to see this quote in the article. No one was hurt and I'm glad the cruise fare and transportation costs are being refunded. The ship couldn't have been pleasant with the toliets on working and part of the ship in flames.
Quote:
Carnival says passengers will receive a full refund for the cruise and would be reimbursed for transportation costs. Passengers also will get a credit for a future cruise equal to the amount paid for the current trip, Carnival said

Yes...sadly the moronic comments have already started on the internet.
A comment on the "yahoo" news story had some idiot claiming she was on this ship 5 years ago and the same thing happened...that they need to "retire" this ship.
The problem is...this ship wasn't even built 5 years ago....
As Ron White says "you can't fix stupid" .....

Laughing at the fool who said she was on the ship five years ago!
I hope they get the ship up and running soon. The crew have had a rough few weeks on this ship with the medical evac of a crew member and the suicide of another, and now this.
Was on this ship on 49 day cruise around South America and can say that this ship was terrific and would return in a heartbeat. Have been on some 45 cruises and this ship was one of the best.Unless you have been on the Splendor do not knock this one.
We have a cruise in jan. on another cruise line (RCL, Allure of the Seas).
So far two people have asked if I am still going to go on that cruise after hearing about all those ships catching on fire.
I am glad that no one was hurt on the Splendor. However the sensational media will blow this out of proporsion.

They always do...and people listen. I have a cruise planned in May on another line. Yes, I am going, but my mom will be scared to death. Her problem. Things like this happen.
My Splendor trip is the day after xmas. My guess is they will be sailing by then but if not I dont care. I will take my overinflated cruise fare and go to Aspen instead....

I will be on the Splendor the cruise before yours, I'm not concerned, yet.... I am glad know one was hurt and seas are calm, it would be hard to not to be able to do a lot on the ship if it was rocking and a rolling.

Today my friend who is going on the Glory in Dec. said the same thing. She's scared to death! I asked her "how many ships sail? and with thousands of passengers" I asked her to think of air travel too. How often does such an event happen. She relaxed and said "worded that way, the odds are almost non existant" I know if I was in a disaster, I'd much rather be on a ship with saving equipment and "time" than be on a plane diving to earth with no recourse.
Yes...sadly the moronic comments have already started on the internet......
Yep. Even here on CM we have wild speculation....quote from a poster here....
" If it took them 3 hours to get the fire out that was either one helluva big fire or the CO2 system wasn't working right. .....it should have taken "minutes to an hour" to put out even a really big fire, "not more than an hour". Halon and CO2 systems are released in seconds and should have smothered the fires. Means something went wrong with fire extinguishing systems. " end quote.
Ummmmm Objection your honor, speculation, facts not in evidence.!!!

20 years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs. Now we have no Cash, no Hope and no Jobs. Please don't let Kevin Bacon die.
There was numerous injuries in the stampede of lawyers rushing to the pier in Ensanada.
Another cruise board said that young lawyers were diving in the water and swimming out to the ship. The older, more established law firms were riding jet ski's out to the ship!!
The people who say they would NEVER DO something like cruising have never done it - so they have no idea what it is like.
But if Barbara (my interview) can take THAT cruise as her first cruise and still be so impressed with the company that she says she wpuld definitely go back - that is a testament to great service.

The overwhelming coverage by the media, showed passengers, being very comlimentary in the way Carnival handled the situation. Granted. no one was happy, but, doing all they could, plus the compensation package, assures, at least in my mind, all will book, albeit, for many, somewhere down the road.
The sad thing is, this cruise will forever be know as, the Spaminator cruise, while, nary a bite of it was eaten.......I say, kudos to Carnival!

The same type of reaction occurred to me after the events of 9/11 - people were asking me how I could consider flying. My response was that (fecal matter) happens.
Same thing here - the events of the Carnival Splendor will not stop me from cruising again and soon. Hopefully, next April.

Yes I agree with Darlene, Good Job. How cool to get a 1st time cruiser too.

Splendor is on the West Coast, so the odds of me sailing on her are slim just because of geography, but based on what I have read, if she came to my side of the county, I would without a worry. My plans for next year include at least a 7n, and right now I am looking at the Carnival Dream or the Disney Magic (my price on the Magic would be about the same as the Dream honestly). I had a blast on my first Carnival Cruise (4n Imagination) and will for sure cruise them again, but I really want to see what my big boss can do. :-p
