Default Why cant Carnival Spirit assist Splendor?

The Spirit is heading back to SD as we speak from Manzanillo. Why cant they give some hot food and other supplies to the Splendor passengers? Maybe they could even take aboard some passengers themselves? Logistics are probably the main reason but I havent heard word one about the other Carnival ship in the area. Do they just ignore their bretheren?

If Spirit is just leaving Manzanillo it is a day and a half away from Splendor.

A day and a half at full speed compared to a ship being pulled and barely making a wake.

For a few reasons. First, I don't think the Spirit would make it to the Splendor by the time the US Navy can get there with supplies, and the Splendor is being towed north to San Diego, I don't think the Spirit would make it there by the time they got to San Diego. Even at full speed, the Splendor will be in San Diego by Thursday afternoon, the Spirit isn't due to get into San Diego until Friday.

Also, Carnival already has a big ship fillied with potentially pissed off passengers on the Splendor, why would you now risk pissing off the passengers on the Spirit by altering their itinerary?

I say this as I am due to board the Carnival Spirit on Friday in San Diego, and as of now there is no alteration to our cruise due to leave San Diego on Friday for an 8 night cruise.

By the way, I guess I will get to see the Carnival Splendor when I get to the San Diego port on Friday to embark on the Carnival Spirit, I just thought of that! I wonder now if anyone cancelled or won't show up for their Carnival Spirit cruise on Friday because of the Splendor fire? I may have the ship to myself for this cruise, because I certainly plan on showing up!

Wow,
How would you suggest they do that without disabling a second ship??? I really don't think that's in the cards.

You wont have the Spirit to yourself as I will be there as well. I am going to be in SD tomorrow afternoon and if the timing is right I want to see the Splendor pull in port. I want to see the reactions of folks getting off the ship etc. Could be interesting people watching. See you onboard Friday.

Maybe the pax would like to try this.....

Or...wait until this service is available....

"Oceaneering International is developing and demonstrating technology to achieve ship-to-ship cargo transfer between two ships that are moored "skin-to-skin" and underway in up to sea state 4 conditions. This robotic crane project is funded by the Office of Naval Research..."

I also saw the Spirit was in the same area... here are my guesses;

The Spirit only carries enough food and fuel for its passengers, it cannot deviate from what it is doing withour ruining a second cruise. One cruise is already "totaled" no matter what you do, so you might as well keep the Spirit cruise on course.

However, i know it would be easy for Spirit to get close and for them to transfer at least some passengers.

My guess is that the Navy was there and that was all they needed - Spirit would have just been redundant. But under different circumstances (no Navy, etc) Spirit would have been legally required to assist.
