Carnival Splendor Staff

Now that the Splendor is out of service for awhile, I am curious as to what happens to the staff. Do they transfer to another ship? Do they just stay home until the ship is operational again? Are they paid? From everything that I have heard, they did a great job during the crisis.

From what I have read it looks like the entertainment staff is being transferred to different Carnival Corporation ships. The service staff will be sent home but they will be compensated for the remainder of their contracts. Does this mean that staff,who are compensated with gratuities, will get that amount? That is the question I haven't been able to find a specific answer to.

To be honest, I would be surprised with a layoff this long if the crewmembers were kept on salary. They may get a paid ticket home, but I doubt they will continue to get full payment like they would get if they were working full time.

These are contract employees, and when you aree not on a regular work schedule you are at the whims of the demand of thre workplace.

It would have been different if it was just a week they had off, but this is close to two months with no revenue from that ship. But, I would think every crewmember would have a fresh contract waiting for him (not just the balance of what he had left) waiting for him when the ship resumes, because they are getting almost a regular full 2-month vacation.

These will include people to cook meals for the technicians who will be on the vessel these next few days and some housekeeping staff. Most crew though will be reassigned to other ships and I suspect that when the ship does re-enter service that many of the crew will not have been onboard during the incident." End quote.

I just got off the Spirit today and the CD Jen Baxter was supposed to jump on the Splendor in LA. She mentioned yesterday that she will stay on the Spirit for one more week then she has no idea where she is going. Staff and crew are being redeployed as needed according to her.

I just off the Spirit yesterday as well. I spoke with the Hotel Director and he told me that the deck and engineering crew and a small compliment of other crew were left onboard the Splendor. The rest of the crew were redistributed to the rest of the fleet. I know that half way through our cruise on the Spirit, I had 2 cabin stewards instead of one for my small OV cabin. Turns out the 2nd one was on the Splendor and was brought onboard the Spirirt to work until they found her another place to work.
